Day 48. The clothes had given way about a week ago but he still held on to wearing the remnants of his battered trousers as a kind of loincloth. Strands of his old shirt however had rapidly been reused elsewhere - starting fires, filtering water - and he had been navigating the forest shirtless. I don't suppose it mattered much with nobody else around.
In truth, he'd half given up looking for a way out of the forest he was coming to know quite well. It simply wasn't on his mind as much anymore, replaced with more immediate priorities: bushcraft, hunting, gathering. He enjoyed seeing the stars through the canopy at night and listening to the forest move like it was one single, united creature. The old worries he'd had felt so distant - like they had happened to somebody else, a long long time ago.
