Day 1. He didn't remember wandering off the path, but he clearly wasn't on it now. He was deep in the forest, the shadows looming in from all sides. The trees all looked the same. His attempts to head in a consistent direction had led him past a stump he'd sworn he'd passed before, and his attempts to climb a tree had been thwarted pre-emptively when he somehow became ensnared by an exotic-looking vine. It wasn't a serious injury, but it left his arm with an odd tingling feeling and he himself with an acute sense that soon the sun would be setting and he would be injured and alone in this place at night.
