Day 3. He'd found a stream yesterday, the cold waters nourishing enough. He'd even managed to start a fire that night; an achievement he hadn't quite managed the night before. But the days and nights were clearly already taking their toll, especially on his clothes which had not been chosen with survival in mind.
The injury from that very first day had healed surprisingly fast, but had clearly developed into some kind of rash: most of the skin on that arm now having a slight blue mottling to it. This was a concerning sign but when he thought about it his mind almost refused to take it in - glancing off onto some other thought. But after all, what could he do? He had kept the wound clean, and he continued to search for signs that would lead him back to civilisation and help.
A mile or two upstream was a small waterfall. He let the cold water pour over the arm, and it felt nice. This was something at least.
