MALAKAS Project - Pongo Sweetheart

Oswald Octopus, Henry Juneau Penguin, and Madame Camilla Butterfly all hailed from the very populous town of Hempstead, just east of New York City via Queens Borough. They all seemed to have an ordinary and peaceful life, right until August 12th of 2023, the day when the entire Long Island was struck by a huge earthquake, which quickly and enormously destroyed every settlement there, much less so on Brooklyn and Queens Boroughs (under New York City). While it seemed easy for the mainstream news to speculate the Double Dougs (the Cascadia-based terror group) being responsible for such a destruction, given the magnitude similar to the one that struck Adventure Bay, the said radical group was quick to deny the claim, arguing that they were too busy liberating the so-called Cascadia (the US-Canadian region on the western coast), and that they had no better incentives in attacking cities too distant from their concerned region. Regardless, investigations were immediately deployed to study the affected island.
Oswald and his pet dachshund Weenie, Henry, and Madame and her 17-year old daughter Catrina were among hundreds who managed to survive the devastating earthquake, but they had nowhere else to live around New York, as the Empire State itself had fallen into a serious economic crisis, though not as much as the Great Depression. Not even New York City was willing to take in refugees from the Long Island. as it immediately got itself a bigger problem with anxious survivors from its two damaged boroughs over its own supplies. Despite that, Oswald and his friends turned to their dragon friend Pongo Sweetheart who agreed to give them sanctuary in his apartment in Bronx, though he expressed fear that his neighbors had become incredibly tense, recently due to other refugees invading the unaffected boroughs across the city
Few days later, Pongo's apartment would eventually be invaded by his hostile neighbors, looking to lynch his friends he had been hoarding, only for this uneventful breach to be foiled by no other group than the PAW Patrol. Lead by Chase Alsatian and Skye Cockapoo, the PAW Patrol quickly barged to save every dweller there, including Pongo, Oswald and his friends, and brought them to the airport, because as it turned, many angry New Yorkers began burning down any building that was hoarding refugees across the city, which included the Flatiron Building, several rundown apartments, and inevitably Pongo's. Although heartbroken, they felt relieved for being brought to safety, not knowing they would end up in Santo Tomas, California on the next day.
For five months, Oswald and his dog Weenie, Henry, Madame and Catrina, and Pongo had been adapting well in their new homes in Santo Tomas. But by January 2024, their fate would gradually change once Oswald had crossed paths with the brown and muscular fox, named Timothy Soro.
Unlike his other friends, Pongo never bothered to get a job, but had been instead helping others in his way, all across Santo Tomas. However, not all of his efforts came into fruition, as he also proved to be clumsy. This was also not helping the case of his crush Laverne Jones Everdeen, the white elephant who left Bronx a year earlier. This all came up to the point that Pongo fully realized every mistake he made despite his good intentions, and retreated to Big Diner for comfort.
Every night Pongo went there not just to have a heartful dinner, but to also have a good chat with Madame Butterfly, Catrina, Henry and any of available workers there. However in this case, he was shocked to see Henry so big and muscular. Henry himself explained how he became like this and added that Madame joined the MALAKAS Project to help herself find a better solution for her struggling daughter. He was temporarily promoted as a manager and was suprisingly a very good cook, but assured Pongo that Madame would eventually come back in few months. Henry also noticed how bummed the dragon was, and Pongo confirmed it, explaining how things went wrong all despite his efforts. Henry suggested joining the project to help find resolution, but Pongo insisted on waiting for Madame as he relied on her for good and helpful advice.
Predictably few months later, Madame came back to work as a manager, but as a Super Soldier, much to Pongo's surprise. Henry explained the same situation to Madame, and she agreed with the penguin's suggestion, but she also gave Pongo a reminder that, no matter how many times he failed, anyone who witnessed him would at least acknowledge and respect his efforts. In fact, few patrons present were also familiar with Pongo, although annoyed with his tendency to make accidents, they admitted he did try all he could, but just told him to be careful next time.
And despite all of his efforts of being careful and being helpful at the same time, his stay in the mountain base was just the complete series of minor accidents and one big disaster, and yet Pongo got honorably discharged anyway. Even though many Recruits disliked him for being clumsy, they at least gave him credit for accidentally destroying a supermax prison newly built under orders by the project's higher-ups.
By the time he returned to Santo Tomas, he was about to meet Laverne at the bus terminal, but she was mugged by two petty thugs who just wanted her money. The alarmed Pongo came to save Laverne, but the thugs became horrified to see Pongo so big and muscular, that they quickly left her alone and unrobbed. Laverne was relieved to be saved but she had accidentally broken her legs following the failed mugging attempt, so Pongo decided to carry her to hospital, in which she responded to him with a hug.
