Have some info on Strix! I actually got a little side chapter planned to show some more of his backstory. He's been on my mind lately, i do love a mad scientist trope.
• He's already in his late 50s by the time Jag meets him. (Keeps himself youthful with magic, plus Jetblack helps to keep his cells young & cancer-free, much like Jag does for Jimmy.)
• He was a stinking rich lawyer before changing his career to mad scientist. He hated everything about his life up to that point, hated his job as a "professional liar", spent most of his free time experimenting with all sorts of mind-altering substances.
• Self-loathing incarnate, but he doesn't take it out on himself the way Jimmy does. The two are very much opposite sides of the same coin. Strix is not a sociopath, he simply does not consider anyone worthy of his empathy.
• Admires demons because they are "pure" in his eyes, demons are incapable of guilt due to lacking a soul.
• He found & raised Jetblack from a category zero flatworm, before the Agency was even established. It gave him an edge on demon knowledge, hence why he was hired by them.
• The claws he has on the right are a temporary adjustment from Jetblack, lets Strix do delicate surgery without scalpels.
• The earrings he wears are talismans, work as long-distance communcators & magic amplifiers.
• Losing his legs is a mild spoiler for the future! Something that happens in a later event in the sequel to Jagged Jimmy, which is still very much in the planning phase~
