"As a kid", nothing - one of the captains' sprinklers was watering a 20 foot patch of sidewalk on my way into work, and I very nearly ran through it this morning!
I do agree, though. Growing up, these were the kinds of summer days made for running through sprinklers, drinking from hoses, consuming mass quantities of Freezee popsicles (the ones in the clear plastic tubes), and having EPIC water-balloon battles.

That does bring back memories and also even today that can help me cool down after doing yard work of on the project vehicle we have but also this heat wave needs to end soon and working it SUCKS at work even with all the fans going and the water cooler fans going it still is hot as hell.
My neighborhood would have massive super soaker fights. I saved up all the money I could to get the best blaster on the block. I still have the best. Fear me, for I am T.I.G., king of the super soakers! Anyone who dares question my rule will be drenched with water so much they're underpants will unravel from the moisture! Muwhahahaaaa!
