PART # Selfie Time-=-The night had been beautiful for
NekoGato-chan and
Recurrent-kun. Their new forms had been initially alien to them but they had adapted quickly. it was everything Tazkol-Chan and I could've hoped for when we found them surrounded by a large crowd of fans, admiring their forms. All of them were taking photos on phones and fawning over everything from their wings to their tails and their "animatronic jaws" looking so realistic. That last part had me giggling to myself. If they only knew the truth of it all, I thought to myself. Part of me wanted to just interrupt the scene but I wanted these two to have their happy moment as a proud couple. A happy couple. Part of me now wished that Tofu-kun were here with us.
But, then, he was busy eggsitting our children with Alucard-kun. He was the reason Tazkol-Chan and I were even allowed to be wandering about, taking in the scenery of the convention, looking for a bite to eat. Tazkol-chan nibbled my earfin pointing to a steakhouse in the far distance. After being encaged in the maternity ward for so long and deemed safe enough to be let out again, it must have been quite a relief for her to be able to roam free.
"Look, Tammy, they actually make 96-oz steaks," She trilled, licking her chops. "I could eat three of those..."
"Oh, Tazkol-Chan! That would be a feat I would adore to see," I giggle, my claws resting on on the handle of a wagasa or, as some would say, a parasol. My shamisen was strapped to my back and by my side was holstered decorateive fans. They were additional props granted to me by the Capcom staff but holding them all felt like second nature to me. Scaled to my larger size, they certainly felt real enough. Of course, i had no use for them at the time. For now, we were any other attendant at the convention.
Then I felt something small clutch at the end of my tail. I squeaked, earfins lifting as I slowly craned my neck to look behind me. A dear Shōjo was playing with my tail and gasped with surprise as I lifted it carefully, the furred end hovering inches from her face. She looked up at me clapping her hands excitedly, laughing jovially.
She was such a sweet child. Pure, innocent. Her grin had a few of her teeth missing--I felt that only added to her endearing nature. She had the smell of strawberries scented about her. My ivory face flushed warmly. I wanted to pick her up and nuzzle her face. Though when I saw her parents hovering closely with anxiety, I decided instead to kneel down, my snout a few inches from her face.
"Koninchiwa, little one," I giggle, a thin smile on my vulpine face. "Are you enjoying yourself here?"
"Pretty!" The Shōjo giggled and she prodded my pink sensitive nose with a finger. Not hard, but it caught me a little by surprise. She bounced a little bit and clapped excitedly. "Her nose is wet!"
"Kira, come here. Don't bother the cosplayer like that," Her mother said arms outreached to pick her up. But my smile stayed on my face and my scales were rosy tinge.
"Kira-chan, yes?" I asked, my voice now a soft, motherly whisper. "Watch this~!"
To the child's delight, I worked up a little bit of bubblefoam from somewhere inside me and, exhaling slowly, blew a stream of colorful bubbles from my mouth. Kira squealed as she ran a short distance chasing after them. What a happy child, I thought to myself. Part of me hoped my children would be so darling.
As I stood back up, I looked down at the mother and father as they stared up at me, thanking me for the small bit of entertainment. "Your costume is very good too. Just like those other two behind you."
"Oh, thank you kindly, ningen." I bowed, unfolding my wagasa, and resting it on a shoulder. The pattern was pink and flowered with sakura and gold, much like my kemono. "Tazkol-Chan is just as impressive as I. Eh? Tazkol-Chan?"
I didn't realize that my friend had gone missing. Had she wandered off to that steakhouse without me? I turned my head this way and that, wondering where she could have gone.
Then I heard the excited cries of children being lifted up and I found where she was. Tazkol-Chan was in the middle of being wrestled by a handful of danshi, tugging at her arms and kicking their legs as she effortless held them by her powerful biceps. Another two were lifted up by her strong tail, and their parents were on standby, almost worried they would be hurt. Tazkol-Chan, however, would prove out to be quite gentle with younglings, and after a small twirl and a playful growl, she brought them all down, gave them a soft pat on the head, and saw them on your way.
"Mind your parents, now," She said as she watched them run back to their parents. She stroked her swelling belly, looking up at me with a fond smile. "I almost scared one of them off when I smiled with my fangs. They warmed up to it."
"I don't know why they'd be so frightened of you, Tazkol-Chan. You'll make a wonderful mother." I half-lied. Tazkol-Chan would no doubt be a wonderful mother, yes, but to ningen, she could still be intimidating at first glance. Tazkol-Chan was a Magnamalo, after all. Get her angry enough and she could prove very frightening. But, in such a crowd surrounded by children, her maternal instincts drove her to be restrained and gentle.
Sure enough, the attention from the children attracted other congoers. We were soon being surrounded by guets taking photos of our forms and we, as monsterkin and unofficial entertainers, did our best to put on a little show for them. I flashed my sensu, I strummed my shamisen, I even spun my wasaga for all. I even blew a few bubbles for them and Tazkol-Chan--why she breathed a bit of of that dazzling ghostly fire. Carefully however; there was much at the convetnion that was flammable so she had to keep it under control. And to her credit, she did an amazing performance.
It was met with applause and cheer and my heart warmed at their encore. Though some part of me found it averting to be the center of attention, I simply adored this moment in the spotlight and I drank up the swelling applause. If only my husbands could see me. So lost in my performance I was, that I hadn't noticed Recurrent-Kun and Orion-Chan had come closer to us, similarly drawn to the two other monsterkin on the floor now. I blushed at seeing them so close and I held my sensu close to my snout.
"Why, hello, friends," I said waveringly, realizing we might have taken the attention away. And I bowed low in apology. "Oh! Oh, Gomen'nasai."
Recurrent-Kun titled his head, clicking his beak. "Hm? Why?"
Tazkol-Chan put a large paw-like hand on my shoulder and straightened me back up. She grimaced, showing fangs the length of human fingers. "Do not mind her. She's being polite. You must be the new couple I'd heard about. Recurrent and...Orion was it?"
"Yes! Yes, that's right!" Orion-Chan said with surprise. "But who are you two? I don't think we recognize either of you, do we, sweety?"
"No, not at all," Recurrent-Kun agreed, rubbing his lower beak thoughtfully. "Are you someone we're supposed to know? Did we owe you work at some kind?"
That was a weird thing to say, I thought to myself at the time. I blinked at that and found it difficult to speak to them, simply cringing behind my sensu. What did they mean by work? Have my memories become so vastly altered that I was forgetting things about them?
Tazkol-Chan, fortunately, appeared more lucid than I and was able to explain to them quite a bit who we had been and how we got here. When she credited us for the kinship stones they wore proudly on their necks and mentioned a name that--was it really mine?--seemed to be attached with who I was, their eyes flashed with understanding and Orion-Chan, the sweet girl she was leaned in with her talons clasped together in excitement, trying to call me by that name. It made me cringe even harder with unease.
"Oh, I'm...erm...i don't really call myself that now." I said, trying to find the words. "I'm not a boy or human. Not anymore. My name is Tama-Chan and I am a happy wife and soon-to-be mother for Tofu-Kun's child and Alucard-Kun."
"Oh, wow! You're going to be a mommy?" Orion-Chan squeaked with a bird's noise in delight at that news, her tail waving. "Oh, I'm so happy for you! That must mean I'm going to be a mommy, too!?"
Recurrent-Kun seemed to glow at that insight, almost unsure how to process that revelation. Both of them seemed surprised that the mizutsune woman standing before them, not long before, had been a man. Not just any man but someone they had long had an association with. That man, however, was less than a fading memory now. I could barely remember what I had looked like before. At the very least, they seemed to accept that idea.
My earfins perked at that. I felt more comfortable now and lowered my sensu, cooing at the news. "Oh, so you are to have eggs of your own? I congratulate you both!"
"Oh, oh yes! I'm so very happy!" Orion-Chan nuzzled Recurrent's furred neck. "I'm very happy as I am now. Recurrent is too--thank you both for the stones you gave us. So! Is there anything you wanted to do while we're together."
"Well..." I thought about it carefully and remembered our original plans. "Tazkol-Chan and I were going to go to a steakhouse so she could enjoy a nice few slabs of hot meat. Then we would probably go to the maternity grotto soon after!"
"They have a grotto here, too?" Orion-Chan's eyebrows raised. "Isn't that expensive?"
"No, we monsterkin get everything free!" Tazkol-Chan winked. "We just help out with spreading the stones and being entertainment for the convention. It's quite cool."
"Well, sign us up for that. That sounds like a blast!" Recurrent-Kun fished into his pockets for sometihng and pulled out another one of those smart phones the convention attendees were using. "How about we immortalize this moment with a nice selfie?"
It was weird to be grasping the idea of a selfie despite feeling as if I should know what that was. Fortunately, I had enough experience with congoers asking for such things that I knew it meant they wanted a photograph with Tazkol-Chan and I. It was a nice gesture--I can tell you in that moment, I could not say no. So before we indulged ourselves in juicy meat, I climbed atop Tazkol-Chan's back, and the four of us huddled together as Recurrent-Kun took that photo. Then we would all be having the time of our lives!
