Archiving my work from the past 5 years, today I am doing 2023.
Sooo I’ve been postponing this one for way too long. This year was such a hard one to look back to, so I think I was kinda avoiding that. But I feel I have to do this, so let’s do it! Alsooo sorry this is probably my longest summary ever written O__O
During the end of 2022 my health was going worse. Nevertheless I started 2023 with new strength and positivity! With changing things for the better I started a new year with new plans! Sadly after a tooth extraction that kept causing me pain, I was going through a roller coaster of even more sickness, stress, pain and a chronic sinusitis+bursitus. I apparently had TMJ disorder and also ended up with a stomach ulcer. I was suffering from a lot of stress, my neck, ear, face and temple hurt a lot and couldn’t handle hard sounds.
I now know on this day 2025 that I have trigeminal nerve pain that’s been causing chronic pain on that side of my face (so that explains why the pain didn't go away after the tooth was taken out), which is the cause of a lot of my current health issues atm. So between struggling with chronic illnesses I tried to continue working on my projects. For now I want to avoid talking about my health any further, because it’s become a troublesome repeating topic for me. I have been keeping journals about it, so I have shared enough.
I will be covering the summary from left to right, top to bottom!
In 2022 I introduced ko-fi memberships and I was lucky to have 2 loyal supporters (and they still are in 2025 <3) that would receive my very first Spring package in spring 2023. Thank you so much Exobass and Sponst for the amazing support! I worked on your gifts with lots of love and joy.
I made a traditional badge for Exobass (blue dragon) and I’ve made them both a handmade plush coin pouch/etui! They came out soooo cute and I am looking forward to making more in the future. I also made my first you-tube video, where you see me talking about these projects. It was kinda scary to film myself and especially speaking in a language that isn’t my own.
I also started to get more involved with my son's school and volunteered to help with making round wooden name plates to hang above the coat rack of their class. But instead of names it would be all kinds of animals. We worked on it with a group of 3 moms, including myself and the kids from class 6 also helped out. I suggested to draw them with posca pencils and finish them with a varnish layer for protection. In total I made 7 or 8 and I really enjoyed making them!
The school was also looking for new shop keepers (starting August new school year) for their little school shop. Apparently the current volunteers had been doing it for 8 years and were struggling to find replacements. But they poured their hearts into it and didn’t want to abandon it either. I was immediately excited for this, but was hesitating at first if I should really start doing even more with my health. But on the other side it would give me the chance to be more outside and take a breather from my workplace at home. It would be a voluntary job, the shop was open 3 times a week for just an hour (and right after you bring or pick up your kid at school) and you had to do the inventory, so buy the supplies and other things that were for sale in the shop. Of course I wasn’t planning to do this alone so I immediately asked around and we ended up with the same group as the project we did together earlier that year (wooden plates). I truly loved doing this (and now writing this in 2025 after moving house, I really miss this :() and yeah I had less time for other things, but it was really good for my mental health and social life.
Next to being shopkeepers we also organized workshops for the parents/caretakers and others interested. It was really fun to explore different kind of projects like sewing leaves from woolen felt and making transparencies to hang before your window or lamp. And It wasn’t just about creating something, but also about building a community and connect with the people from and around the school.
On top of that as shop keepers we were also responsible for organizing the advent market for school. I super duper loved organizing this! After talking and reading some documents from the previous organizers, I was like ok I got this, let me do this! I really enjoyed organizing this market for school and it was a great success as well <3 I was like yeah this is my strength, my thing! Sadly due to house move in 2024 I had to say goodbey. I would love to talk more about this experience, but I need to keep it semi short >__<
Back to sewing! The year started well productivity wise, I finished a lot of splatoon hats and started to close my shop in between orders to avoid getting too much on my plate. The interest in these kept coming, so I had to be cautious. I also started to prototype new hats, Octo hats! I made both a boy and girl hat. Like always I underestimated the projects and put a lot of pressure on myself. There were times I wanted to just give up, because I struggled a lot with being sick a lot and the amount of hours this project would end up needing. Especially the purple tenta twists ended up being my biggest challenge to make. But in the end I was really proud of what I achieved <3 (blue and purple octoling hat) I also worked on updating my shop with lots of new shop photos! It looked a lot more professional now <3
If you haven’t noticed, I barely have been drawing furry art. This was because I no longer had easy acces to a computer :(. So after finally getting myself an IPad Pro, I immediately started to try it out. From designing to drawing and making my new logo! But what I especially enjoyed was trying Pro Create! Since I have been working with Paint Tool Sai for like 10+ years I was so used to that program and the tools I used in that program that it was very hard for me to suddenly change. It was a real struggle and I still haven't made an ink brush that feels the same as my Sai brush. But one brush I did end up liking a lot was the sketching brush! So I finally started to turn my personal project from my sketchbook and written ideas digital. My personal project “Elefairytale” is about a magical forest where magical and non magical creatures live! In the sketch (the frogs) you see a frog, a best friend of Elise (a small elephant) that lives together in this forest. I would love to share more about this project in a different update. <3
There would be a costume party at my son’s school and of course I had to make something myself. It was made in just one week during the evening. The theme was fairy tale, so he asked for a knight costume. ♥ It was really fun to do something for myself (well for my 4 yo) ^__^
As always I am crazy enough to make my kids their own birthday cakes with marzipan. For my son this years theme was Lego, so naturally I made him the green ninja from Ninjago (it was his favorite character). For my daughter who really loved miffy I recreated her favorite episode where miffy visits a castle. On the back there is also a train made from marzipan O_O She ate miffy up with a big smile on her face <3 hehe
Due to health circumstances I broke my promise and ended up working during my break at the end of the year. I felt so guilty about the onesies being delayed, I wanted to finish something! So I did start something, but yeah naturally I would become sick again…immediately being punished…idk what to say about this anymore.
Anyways! Honestly when I look back at this year (and that’s exactly why I need to do this for myself), I asked wayyyy too much of myself (again). I did enjoy all the things I’ve done though and sure in between all the creations I would suffer from chronic pain or being sick, but I made a lot of cool things <3 But at what cost…idk will see in 2024. More horror stories :P One thing’s for sure, I have a really hard time balancing my life as a mom, an artist and taking care of my health and their limitations.
