I can hardly count the number of times I've felt defeated in life.
Sometimes in trivial matters, sometimes in truly testing circumstances.
The urge - even the declaration of intent - to stop trying and resign myself to failure is strong.
It's hardly ever true though;
Even as I say this video game wasn't worth the money 'cause it's pissing me off,
Even as I see the forecast bringing one more rainy day when I'm jonesing for a park walk,
Even as I say I'm not going to go into that job one more day,
Even as I say I'm not worth the effort to help on my worst behaved days,
Even as I say the social event, job interview, lengthy and / or unpleasant phone call is too difficult,
... there's something in me that won't give in.
Like a rabbit with a sword, I show a pessimistic anxious face sometimes, but I'm carrying myself with wit and steel will.
You don't truly fail if you return and try again.
