BREAKING NEWS: Insomniac weirdo jumps full force into 2D image edit, first thing after posting long journal about why traditional art doesn't work for him anymore. 🙀🙀🙀🙀🙀
Jokes aside: This late afternoon while studying my mental health and special needs, I came across a stroke of genius. Lately, I've established a better relationship with my phone, and have stopped using all apps and sites that lead to bad moods and panic attacks. And I've noticed, with less social media in my life, the world feels nostalgic and brighter again. Particularly: I've been having moments of the fresh air feeling good, and the present moment feeling preferable over escapism, for the first time since my childhood in the early 2000s.
But with my phone addictions out of the way, I've noticed I've been spending too much time at the computer again. While my favorite art forms are all entirely digital, the double edged sword of the computer is that it can be used as a place to work as much as a place to play - especially with a PC like mine, which I custom built for both gaming and workstation specs. Every now and then, I boot up my computer to get some hobby work done, and all the sudden I've wasted 45 minutes procrastinating online somehow. Or, almost even worse, I boot up my computer for a quick match of Halo to help stimulate myself into waking up (via the scientific technique of autism stimming for focus and mood regulation), and suddenly I've wasted 3 whole hours grinding on Warframe instead.
The funny part is, just like with everything in the world these days, some part of my overly nostalgic mind swears to me that my computer wasn't always like this. That, at one point, I saw the computer as this magical thing to sometimes play around with and maybe practice something creative for a few short minutes on - not to spend my whole life on. Because, [gags laughing and spits out drink], back then, what kind of MANIAC would you be seen as if you spent more than an hour at the computer if it wasn't for your job or for home-schooling, right!? Kids like me were still expected to play outside, draw with pencil & paper, and wouldn't be trusted with a cell phone for good reason.
Studying these vibes and these feelings on life, similar to life before smartphones, my mind wants to tell me that life was happier before I used my computer FOR EVERYTHING ALL THE TIME. Today my computer is used for hobbies, art, social connections, news, TV, streaming, music, podcasts, everything. And like, back when I was a kid (and the world felt like a nicer place, probably due to the fact that I didn't have instant access to witnessing political hysteria at my fingertips 24/7) I swear back then I only used the computer for: looking up simpler web games like neopets, fooling around with apps like Google Sketchup without the burden of a project deadline, and playing fun puzzle games for maybe 30 minutes at most. There was a time when technology was just... a thing that kinda existed, but wasn't too big of a deal. Instead of the
🔥PROCRASTINATION VORTEX AND SOCIAL MEDIA HELL-PIT OF MANUFACTURED FEAR🔥it feels like today.
So, in my stroke of genius? I decided: to heck with all this. Every time I pull up my PC? My Windows Lock Screen is going to be a vision board, acting almost like a magick sigil spell. The first thing I see will be a reminder to stay responsible, take breaks, and be reasonable towards my goals. Alongside, who else but my latest inspiration and coolness mascot / bi furry crush Sonic, in a poster designed with emulated Windows 95 Word Art and arcade pattern backdrops to maximize the auras of sparkledog-core childish wonder. Any time I press that power button, I will now be reminded of what a computer and a workstation, in my nostalgic and autistic unmasking mindset, should look and feel like for a better state of mental health. 💖

Duuuuuude this almost brought a tear to my eye! This reminds me of the years I'd be in the computer lab back at school and the community center and just the feel of fun i used to get from being online. When everyone had their own personalized websites and fun computer games and stuff! i love the "Complaining on social media is for losers" lol. Beautiful work, my friend. Truly wonderful!
