Roland 5 was the 12th ruler of the Kingdom of Normania, succeeding his brother Leon I in 653. He enlarged the kingdom's territory and founded numerous religious and civil establishments.
In 668, he signed a peace agreement with the Grand Principality of Libourne, recognizing its excitence and putting an end to the first Normano-Libourne conflict (629-668), which had lasted 39 years.
In 672, he approached the Salic law that his father John 4 had instituted, again allowing female members of the royal family to claim the Normanian throne.
His reign ended in 684 at the age of 49, after 31 years. He was succeeded by his son Leo 2.
