Thunderhead Kraken Concept
Thunderhead Kraken; A cryptid I designed for the Warrowick setting. It's important to note that the seas of Warrowick are practically impossible to traverse past a certain point. Being a Dungeons and Dragons style setting, the sea is lousy with giant, unknowable horrors infesting it's various depths. Exploration was a delayed effort because of it, and it doesn't help that Warrowick is effectively a super earth. That said, the Thunderhead is if anything a medium sized horror compared to what else lies out there. From the Bestiary entry partially writing by me and Dr.Portal, and composed by Dr.Portal as well.
'Thunderhead krakens eat electricity exclusively and are often found in the center of storms, rising to the surface to siphon off electrical charges expelled by the lightning.
Biologically, the Thunderhead is actually comprised of two beings. The lower end of the kraken is a giant, apparently headless octopus, while the thunder 'head' is a giant siphonophore( a collection of organisms building a new creature. The best example of a real-life analog is the portugese man o'war.).
They are also referred to as "False lighthouses," as their bright yellow glowing heads seen in the center of storms are mistaken for lighthouses. Should one get close enough to realize one's mistake however, one is already in range of the gigantic tentacles.
The active intelligence or awareness of the beings is not well known. The decidedly few fishers that venture far out into the vast seas claim that the thunderhead tricks people knowingly, sapping the diesel ships from the pull of their electrical generator before sinking the entire vessel. Others claim this is paranoia, as Thunderhead-krakens have only ever been seen inside active storms, though truthfully few encounters are survived'
