<3 thanks
Pretty much all of my Swallow stuff so far has been him messing up and having bunnies/mice get angy at him, and there's still going to be a lot of that, but especially after I finish the conclusion to the Mostly Harmless/Don't Fuck Up comics, he's going to start getting some wins as well.
I'm really looking forward to also having him occasionally be derpy in situations that don't lead to him in pain X3
He's still very bad at prey interactions, but over time he's starting to meet more prey that will tolerate that, and as a result he's going to start developing some slightly healthier relationships and getting a little bit better at controlling himself (or at least more aware of the prey as not just objects to fawn over but actual equals) - and I'm hoping there'll be a lot of cute character development with that. UwU
It's a (hopefully) less toxic version of the same "objectification" theme that comes up in a lot of Forest pieces - where the preds in the Forest all to some degree have difficulty not objectifying the prey or slotting them into roles - but some of them handle it in more healthy ways. I think there's going to be in the longer term at least a small very subtle shift where he's thinking more, "okay, I have relationships with all of these prey animals and they're tolerating me in those relationships, and so they're not just objects that I'm fascinated by. It's fine for me to be enamored with them, but they don't exist for the purpose of me being enamored with them." The difference between like a kid chasing a cat around until they get scratched, vs one that is actually taking care of the cat. They both care about the cat, but the kid chasing the cat around cares in a very possessive way that's not really thinking about the cat's feelings.
And I think when he's thinking of the prey as more equals, that's Swallow at his moral best and where the best parts of his personality will come out more, but it's not a part of his personality I've gotten to explore much yet - most of his comics just have him being complete doggo. But there's still be a lot of doggo too (both good doggo and misbehaving doggo) <3
Sorry, didn't mean to go on a tangent X3
