Another entry to Poetigress's Thursday Prompt
thing, this time on the keyword 'race.'
Well now, this could imply somebody chasing
somebody. But who is it, why, and where are they
doing it?
(Shut up, Mr. Brown, or you'll give the whole
sonnet away right here. >^_^< )
Wrote itself, five minutes work, and whee, it was fun.

By moonlight's gleam I glimpse your flashing eyes,
Cast back to judge how near to you my fangs.
Then dash, duck left through narrow gap: ah, wise.
Thick heavy branches in my path o'erhangs,
No matter: this track here will bring me through,
Ahead, I think, of you, unless I'm wrong.
These woods I know (but then you know them too).
We're matched. From eager joy I cry a song.
You hear me? Yes, you do. The echoes fade.
That ancient howl, so old, so fierce, so right.
As loud as any my ancestors made,
A-hunt for yours, swift kills in gloom of night.
But there! I see! Big ears, your tail, your face!
A pounce, a kiss, then more. Who won this race?
