Ornate, perfectly preserved snow flakes still occasionally fluttered to the ground, drifting lazily from the sky which had begun to take on its typical blue hue once more after days of perpetual gray; the finally throes of that great storm that had left the world covered in a fine, white blanket. Orlendr paused to watch the pristine crystalline structures floating carelessly through the sky before they were lost in the endless sea of snow that coated the land. Some recess of his mind, some fragment from a time when he was someone else, an echo that faded just a bit more with each passing day, told him that each falling flake of snow was unique. He found it utterly perplexing; no two were exactly alike and yet it all became utterly homogenous once they joined together.
The gathering storm had brought with it a biting cold that threatened to sap the very life from any unfortunate soul that it caught in its grasp. The storm had passed, and malice of the cold with it, but the world still bore its marks. The sudden chill had frozen even the moving waters of the once babbling streams, affording crossings where once there were none. He strode out onto the ice, which easily bore his weight without so much as a groan or creak of protest.
The ice was thick and opaque, the telltale whispers of water still flowing beneath its surface was all that distinguished water from land. Where the water was more calm the ice had formed more smoothly, like some natural mirror under the struggling midday sun. He stopped in his tracks, eyes turned downward as a figure peered back up through the ice at him. Yellow eyes met his own, distorted by the ice, set into a skeletal visage; gaunt cheeks with the cold, pallor of death. The dead thing in the water under the ice met his gaze with an unnerving indifference and cold apathy to its predicament. Had it really been so long? Did he truly no longer even recognize his own reflection? He thought of those falling snowflakes once more; each beautiful in its own way before being lost forever, just to fade away in obscurity. Was he still the same person, or was what lies beneath forever changed, waiting to wither away like spring snow?

This is quite a fantastic work from Dezigre: such beautiful colors, water effects, and especially their representation of Orlendr.
I really like the snowflake analogy, I think it could definitely apply to us too. Each person is unique, but when put together in a large number, we appear as one group.
Also, you pose an interesting question: is Orlendr the same as before or forever changed? It’s really interesting to consider how he sees himself now vs before, not only physically, but in his spirit or sense of being.
Seriously, though, this story is very awesome and well-written! Even if it takes longer to post them, your stories are always wonderful to read. :)

I have come to really love Dezigre's art, their art has such a unique, stylish and bold feel to it that I really love, and they are one of the artists that I feel always makes Orlendr look great.
I am glad you did not mind my rather heavy handed analogy haha. This piece, rather obviously, makes me think about reflecting and how we can slowly be molded by the world and people around us. It can be a really subtle process, and it does sometimes beg the question: how much of how we present ourselves is us and how much of it is other people influencing us? I do think he has changed, but change isn't always a bad thing, even if it feels frightening when we are confronted with it. Orlendr's story, to me, was always about learning to find your own way and discovering yourself, even if it isn't easy.
And thank you so much! This one funny enough really only took me like 30 minutes or so, probably because I just focused on symbolism and ignored trying to weave much of a narrative haha

Under that thick blanket of frozen snow, could it be that there is a creature somehow connected to us? Or maybe it is our current appearance, but we do not notice it and continue to have the same appearance as always? Like, are we the same person as before or during the years we forever changed in what the reflection on the frozen water shows us? I adore the incredible work done by Dezigre, how they illustrated Orlendr seeing that unknown yet so familiar skeletal figure. The analogy, the tribal vibes, the desire to understand who we really are and how others see us... everything came out freaking spectacular! From your wonderful description/story to the fantastic work brought to life by Dezigre Sensei. 🐺❄️🧊
I definitely agree, I think Dezigre did a great job with this one, I just love the composition and the symbolism of it. I think Orlendr's design can be a bit of a finicky one; I do feel like his design can sometimes clash with certain art styles, but I really like how Dezigre does him, in this pic and the previous one. Thank you as always for the very kind comments, Donny!
