Another hard breed to get a picture of. They'd always turn their heads right as I was taking a picture and blurrrrr. @.@

I had a feeling you were bound to comment sometime, lol. Dunno why.
I guess you're out around Vegas? If I ever get to go back out there again(because OMG FOOD, SUCH AWESOME FOOOODS!), and I have a better camera, maybe?
I actually got at least a couple of really neat shots of one Borzoi that will be uploaded at some point from Sunday. It's funny, I had considered a Borzoi at one point(I have considered a lot of breeds really), and they really are such lovely dogs with how laid back they are, but not really my type. But that's the great thing about there being so many breeds, unless if someone really and truly isn't a dog person(there's been cat people converted by Shibas and Klee Kais), there's a breed for just about everyone. ^-^

well, borzoi are like....m'thing...so I comment on everything borzoi. XD!
Yeah, I'm in Las Vegas...dying from the humidity right now. Which is odd...I'm use to the dry heat we always have. I don't where this stuff has come from. But aaanyways...yes, that is why I like the borzoi! They are very laid back...but friggin' power houses when they want to be. It's an awesome combination.
I used to be a cat person...never really wanted a dog...but then I started wanting one more and more and the borzoi was just like......wow. Best dog I have ever had. :D
Which breed would you want?

Humidity and heat sucks, I used to live in Florida, where it was usually 90-98 through the summers, and I could not breathe for the life of me. Moved to Oklahoma and it's hitting 103 lately and while it's humid, it's not anywhere near as bad.
Right now we actually have two American Eskimos, which are happy fun dogs usually, but as they came to us at 7 and 10, they're just kinda...there. I have an APBT that I'm training but she's not permanent, though I adore APBTs for their versatility. And we're *supposed* to be getting a Karelian Bear Dog, but the woman who is giving him to us(he's not happy in the apartment she moved into, and she wants to do what's right by him, but...that's her buddy) hasn't gotten back to us yet. >.>',,
I like more active dogs, but not like border collie active..those guys are just about bonkers. If more Ibizans were like the one I had, I'd love to have another, but as it stands, it's just kinda iffy. I don't know, I love and adore so many breeds for different reasons and respect them for what they are, especially rare breeds, so I'm all over the place if that makes sense. x.x

I hear ya. I had a temp job as a parking lot attendant at the motor speed way...which is basically nothing but a track and miles of black top...I had to park cars all day and night in 111 degree weather. Not fun...though, it's given me like an immunity against the heat or something. Just not the humidity. lololol
awww American Eskimo dogs are so cute. I don't like small dogs, I wouldn't have one personally, but they are beautiful.
dlsfjksldjljsdkf I love Pit bulls! They are the coolest dogs. I'm going to have to baby sit my friend's in a few more days. He's like the friggin' greatest dog ever. the only thing I don't like about the breed is that most of them lick....too much XDDDD!!!
Same here. I like active dogs...but only if they have a off switch. A border collie would drive me insane...as well as my borzoi. He doesn't like dogs that are all work work work and hyper. XD
I Like borzoi for that reason. Vladimir is a great hiking, jogging, hunting dog...but he knows when it's time to just tone it down. you don't even notice that he's in the house. He's so boss.
How do most Ibizans act? I have a friend here that I hang out with who has three of them. They and Vladimir love to get together for run dates...I've never really hung out with two of them, but I've hung out a lot with her youngest one, Tobi. He's such a love bug and very very sweet and devoted to her. That's all the experience I've had with them...so I'm curious.
I'm a total die hard sighthound fan. I love any sighthound..they are like the best dogs in a non-dog-ish way...if that makes sense? They are sort of like their own thing.

Ugh, black top+heat=more heat. You poor thing.
Our largest Eskie is most certainly a standard, so while she's not big, she's not small either. But hey, there's always Sammies. I love how happy Eskies are, but I probably won't get another one after these two. We weren't supposed to end up with two anyhow, it just happened due to a series of events that sucked.
I've noticed with APBTs they're either lickers, tail whippers, or serious. Or sometimes they're a serious licker tail whipper, I dunno. But they are massively fun and love having something to do, and I enjoy that. Selkie is turning out to be a joy to train when she isn't all uber spazz puppy. Very smart little dogs.
You hunt with your boy? That's awesome. ^-^ Funny random fact, my mom's service dog, who is an APBTxLab is named Vlad. X3
Ibizans in the states, at least to me, seem cautious and kinda alert-shyish-but-doesn't-make-it-noticeable. Something that's a little different than aloof but I can't describe the difference. Dali was aloof with adults but forward, loved kids and baby animals, and was protective without being aggressive, and put on a good show of it too. Yet I could switch him off by moving his collar. I don't know, he was just so different, he had confidence and showed it, he didn't come off as shy, he came off as 'screw you, I'm going over here'. Cocky, that's the word I'm looking for...he was cocky and the Ibizans I've met do the standing around thing that he'd do too, but they don't come off as cocky(they do however have that 'I'm royalty' thing...but it's not the same). Which makes me sad and not sure about another. Some days it's 'I'd love another', others it's 'I don't think I can really'. Because I don't know if it was him, or something I did to make that come out in him.
I like the tri-hounds and pariah types in theory. Typically all hounds and spitz breeds will do their own thing to some extent, they're the 'work away from person' types, so they need to do their own thing. ^-^

There is a lady here who is like our "friend-of-the-family" from Hungary and she use to own Sammies! She just lost her last one. She died of a heart attack (she was very very old, but I knew her when she was younger. It was hard to see her age so fast) and they are just the sweetest dogs ever! Always so happy and friendly. But their fur...omg not ideal for where I live.
And that is hella cool that your mom's dog name is Vlad. (double hella cool that he has pit bull in him and a service dog)
I see where you are coming form with the behavior of the Ibizan. Vladimir's breeder was very very devoted to the fact that all american breeders are ruining the breeds. (He was from Russia) and was determined not to breed American bloodlines into his borzoi...but I was happy for that because I really wanted to get a puppy with Russian parents. The temperament of his dogs are amazing. I wish he were still in the breeding business. He had one litter and that was it (since he only had one set of a female and male) then something happened and all the dogs (mom, dad, brothers and sisters) went to this one woman who did nothing but whore them out and throw them in pounds and shit. WTF? She even let Vlad's mom run off and get hit by a car and didn't really seem to care that she did and didn't want to talk to me about it and treated it like, "Why do you care...they are just dogs.".... Then through the website Flickr, a stranger just came up to me one day and said, "I have one of Vlad's brothers." She had found him in the pound in her city (she already has two borzoi of her own) and he was an absolute MESS. She too tried to get facts from that lady but was brushed off as well.
It's so sad....It's been nearly three years since I last talked to Vlad's breeder....and I highly doubt I am ever going to talk to them again. I really want to know why they got rid of all their dogs...and know if they know what has happened to their dogs that they loved so much.
Anyways, enough about that. You said you like the pariah dogs; I really enjoy them as well. How they have kept most of their primitive features for so long it's just amazing. I like to see breeds how they are when they are not in the show ring. How they are meant to be, like, afghans in Afghanistan and saluki in the middle east hunting and doing their jobs. That's amazing to me.

Honestly, American breeders in most breeds are doing pretty well. The changes that have happen in the dog world in the last 30 years have been amazing, and even more so are the past 10-15(especially with health testing, leaning more towards the whole dog, importing dogs and semen from around the world...it is all making things sooo much better). Just, some breeds have their politics and weirdness about them. But if you look at a country like Australia and the Dobermans down there...it's utterly cringe worthy. >.< So, American breeders, not the worst out of the bunch, and they're getting better all the time. But Russia...dude, Russia can throw some amazing dogs in sooo many breeds...poodles and chows and just...oh! Swoon! And South Africa is going to end up being another place for imports it seems.
It really is a shame people like that get their hands on any dogs in the first place. It almost sounds like a particular case they were talking about where this woman locked a bunch of Borzois and other hounds she was caring for, in a kennel situation, in a building and left them. ~Shudders~
It is curious, but sometimes people get in over their heads, don't have as much demand for their dogs, and have a hard time competing and just can't manage it.
The show ring isn't all bad, especially with so many moving towards proving that their dogs can do what they were created for(and even sometimes more beyond that). The UKC is very total dog, and the AKC is starting to get the clue. So we'll see what happens in time. The only thing with Afghans is that the long, flowing coat is attractive. They can still course in it, even though it seems like a mess to do so, but they can. And the only reason it came about is because back in the 70s, someone discovered conditioner keeps the ends from breaking. So in theory, if you condition a coat of an Afghan from Afghanistan and they'll have a flowy coat too.

Oh yeah, there are tons of great breeders in America! Lots of of them. But there are also people who try to be breeders but end up just breeding poorly bred dogs....just because they have an AKC registered dog. They've never shown, never won any ribbons, and probably have never taken their dog to a vet. Those are the people that bring down breeds instead of trying to breed the breed better. There are tons of them out here and most of them don't even have a license to breed. Especially with the popular breeds like the chihuahua, pit bull, german shepherd, rottweiler....just to name a few.
I leave the show ring up to more knowledgeable people. That's not my specific interest. I mean, I enjoy it and don't mind going to show rings, but I just don't dive too far into it just because I don't really like most of the people's attitudes (I've had one too many "fights" and confrontations with people who are totally bagging on me when I wasn't even showing!) and it's just sort of not my thing. We have this great dog park here where I live and I decided to go one day to find that there was an outside dog show taking over most of the pens....leaving all but one open to the public. I went in with Vladimir and this lady who was showing came up to me and started bagging on me because I was letting Vladimir run. wtf....It's just so common that attitude. lol.
I like looking back at the history of the breed though, watching and seeing the dogs do what they were bred to do. Not worrying about where a comb is...or a bottle of shampoo. Down and dirty. Like herding dogs herding for a job (because their humans rely on them as employee to bring in income) Now, that interests me!
I know a woman who has two afghans who would never let them just run around and be dogs because she showed them. She constantly had to set up a little cage with hay in it for them if they were ever to be outside. Then this huge fight broke out with her and this other lady with afghans (who just let her dogs get muddy and dirty and chase things) and lol XDDD It's just....weird. to me. No offense to anyone!
Oh yeah, I've heard that before about the afghan's hair. They also said one of the main reasons the hair was so short then was that they just brushed it when it was dry and basically tore out all the mats and stuff so it was basically "ripped short"
But when you look at the afghans in their home land and still doing what they were bred too, they are so different! And I'm not just talking about the hair either. It's amazing. I like that! :-D
