One of my fursona's recent salvage claims has become a successful rebuild and now serves as our independent navy's newest expeditionary super dreadnought.
The mean greenies on the left are a Victory class line ship from the White Comet Empire, while the chunkier one is their special heavy assault dreadnought / special weapons unit that put a beating to Earth's United Nations Cosmo Navy with some heavy sniping with the Magna Flame Gun newly developed by enslaved Galman/Gamilon scientists.
The two gray boats on the right are our ICN ships, ICN - Stingray an Andromeda derivative, and ICN - Tiger Shark, our new salvage rebuild from one of the Comet's Medarusa (Medusa) class annihilators with said special Magna Flame Gun. That weapon might not have the same raw destructive power as Iskandarian Wavemmotion units, or Galman/Gamilon for that matter, but the cycle rate is far superior, hence our interest in salvaging a ship for ourselves.
TigerShark was put out of action by a well placed counter battery barrage from UNCN Aldebaran before Aldebaran itself was put down by a burst from a Victory class in revenge, and since the majority of Tiger's hull was intact save for the engineering section that took the hit, recovering and rebuilding would be relatively easy. Most Comet ships are rather crude in terms of engineering and power plants so fitting an Iskandarian Wave engine to it would probably give Tiger more power than it ever had as a cookie cutter Medarusa. And since the all important weapon system was intact, hull 44978 would become our new Shark!
When completed, our refit/rebuild looked nothing like the Medarusa the Comet usually spits out in waves. The hull was slightly different to take the wave motion engine(s) yes engines, she has two, Stingray only has one as per usual with Andromedae class line ships, but her tower and main battery guns are nothing like the sort seen on the green companion on the left. Gone are the clusters of dome turrets, replaced by two absolute UNITS of shock turrets derived from Stingray's layout, and what's not seen in this still image is the all important improved Magna Flame Gun in the ventral forward hull. That gun was the reason for the salvage effort. Wavemotion Guns can be thought of as a Colt Python 357. Good punch but limited capacity. This improved Magna gun can be thought of as a Plus-P-Plus 9mm Luger... whatever... Glock... S&W M&P... Not as powerful as the 357 but lots more flexibility in use and tactics... like a high cap mag, ten or more rounds per. More than adequate stopping power, but quick follow up shots, that matters. And this isn't taking into account the other special device tied to the MFG itself.
The Gamilonian SMITE system which the Comet stole and put to use for their fleet was what made the Medarusa class dangerous. Striking UNCN ships well out of effective counter battery WMG fire pretty much left the Comet untouchable for the better part of the fight to defend Earth. Now WE have an improved MFG of our own, to supplement our own beam transporting WMG as seen on Stingray in the middle and together, magnum like power with supportive plus-p 9mil capacity, I doubt the Bolars would want to encroach into Terran space very much!
In a bit of seriousness now, my take on a mixed modern Yamato with Classic has turned out better than I originally thought! She keeps the tower appearance intact, but the huge turret(s) and the Magna Gun hidden behind the modern Medarusa armored grating just makes this ship look EVIL! Perfect thing for a bunch of Skaven to make the Astra Militarum leave them alone.
Anyhow silly 3D random for the fun of it, by yours truly

Agreed, and I like how they continued with Gene's original designs, the Flying Saucer with extra bits bolted on, and later became that graceful oval that was the Galaxy. Hecc even Trek's more miliaristic designs like the three nacelle Dreadnought, later carried over to the Super Enterprise, was a nice touch.
As birthday presents, different kids got me "Starfleet technical manual"s, old and new, and they were really neat! Had an influence on how I looked at things afterward.
Within the Star Trek universe specifically, my favorite will always be the Enterprise-C's Ambassador Class. From our perspective it was created retroactively as a halfway point between the Galaxy and Excelsior (or 3/4 or 4/5 point between the Galaxy and two major "Connie" fits). To me... more than the Excelsior, the Ambassador combined the best-looking aspects of the Galaxy and the old Constitution

Actually, the guy who took the photos says they will probably be refurbished and re-floated. Argentina isn't quite a Third-World County but they need to stretch every peso as far as they can. A contact on Flickr refurbishes old tugboats in England. They just relaunched one that was originally built in 1947 -- after it had been on the bottom in seawater for several years. The old Diesels are hard to kill!
