I don't know how long since I gained the ability of shifting around. But ever since I opened that comic book and got wisked away into a pocket dimension with this shifting ability of mine, I could never be any happier. Because of that, I have been going into one Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reality as a different April O'Neil, living through her life day in and day out. Sometimes spending days as one April O'Neil, then weeks as the other, or months as another, or years as another. I can be swap around each April on a whim and never miss a beat. Sometimes I will be the April in Mutant Mayhem, hanging out with the turtles in high school. Other times I will live in the 2003 world going on a mission with the turtles in that reality. I can spend longer in the 2012 world as the teen April training with the turtles and splinter. And even if I don't like this world, living in the 1984 comic world with the static movements and the speech bubbles, have a bit of nostalgia to it. Yes... Life is great...
Now I am living in the 1987 Turtles world, sitting at the office of Channel Six as the April of that world. I was working on an late 1980s computer working on the recent report. I have been in that world for months and even after that long work week, it would be worth it after what I have plans. Once I was done with it, I stretched and needed a bit of R & R. And by R & R, I mean blow of some steam. Looking up at the clock I knew it's time to leave this world and go into another world.
Getting up off my office chair, I left my workstation and headed to the restroom as I heard Irma.
"Hey April! Leaving work already?"
I turned to see her. Though a bit of a nerd, she does have a kind heart.
"Yeah... Thought I visit the turtles to hang out." I was half right as I wanted to hang out with the turtles, but in a different reality.
"You know, the least you can do is invite me. I can always be a big help with any of their adventure." she said to me.
I was a little unease by this, as I wasn't planning to see the turtles in this world. It's just another world. If only she knew...
"I'll...think about it."
"Sigh... You always say that. Ever time when you leave. Are you trying to keep something from me?"
"No. It's just I don't want you to get hurt. I can imagine Burne's reaction if something bad happens to you. I promise you, when the time is right, I will bring you in for an adventure."
Irma listened to my lie and gave a warm smile. "Okay... Well... If you have a chance to bring me in, let me know."
I chuckled a little and told her, "All right. I will..."
I soon waved at her and left the offices to reach the restroom. I feel bad in lying to her, but she shouldn't know about who I once was. After all, I was once a male at a convention when I found this rare first issue of Ninja Turtles and opened it to change my life forever. If she ever found out, she would have a lot of questions in her head.
As I entered the restroom, I looked myself into the mirror and closed my eyes, envisioning myself as another April. Pretty soon, the restroom around me melted and blended into a vortex of colors. Floating in the middle of it, my body shrunk and regress while my skin darkened. My traditional yellow jumpsuit shifted on my body as jacket opened up and became green, a yellow tube dress appearing under it. My long yellow pants darkened and shrunk up to become black leggings, and white boots shrunk and into smaller yellow slip on shoes. My face remolded into a teenage look and my orange bob cut darkened and started to alter styles with a small twin tail afro with an afro cowlick in front of me and glasses appearing on my face. Lifting my arm out, a baseball bat materialized and was glowing green magical flames. The vortex of colors blended and solidify, sending me into another restroom that was a little dingy and filled with graffiti. Kind of a far cry from the clean restroom of Channel 6.
Opening my eyes, I became the April of the 1987 cartoon to a teenage version of April on Rise of the TMNT. With a smirk, I said, "All right. Let's kick some butt!" Putting my bat in my back holster and left the restroom of a gas station in the rural area of New York City.
Yes. I miss my old life, but in the end of the day, no matter what literation I am, I will always be April. And believe it or not, I have no regrets.
The End.
