Okay, I got to admit, I wasn't expecting this world of Rise. Being the black April was something. Not only do I have to work on a different type of training, but also taking on a world that's really alien to me. Not to mention that the villains I was facing with the turtles were far different from the ones in the past. Sure there is Krang, even looking completely different. But there were other baddies that seem new to me and completely uneventful. Even the allies I've met were just as different as the one in the show. Hell, Casey Jones, was actually Cassandra Jones, a female version. What are the odds of that? In short, I had no idea what I got myself into.
As I was on the roof of a building, I overlook the view of New York the colorful and futuristic like city of New York. It gave me time to reflect what I went through. For months, I went from one April to another in one world to the next. And it was always just as different as the next. Still, I felt like all this fighting no matter what April I be, really does tire me out. A part of me believe that I need a big of a break. If I have to get a break, I need to be the April that is more melo then the others. It was then a thought occurred to me. There was one April that has that laxed attitude. And that is the April O'Neil from the Mutant Mayhem film.
Granted, I watched the movie because it showed a completely different view of the turtles. That they were actually teenagers and wishing to hang out in high school and the like. Quite a different look and feel for the franchise, but I knew that it had potential. They even have a cartoon series that took place after the film on Paramount+. While I never got a chance watching the show, the movie is what I watched. With its unique animation style and its cast of characters, it seems like the turtles movie we all wanted to see. And of course, like the April of Rise, the April of Mutant Mayhem was just as controversial.
Honestly, I don't get why people are so crossed over this April. Yes, she's black and her body proportion is more...round. But this is another reimagining of April like the previous two. Of course, there is a twist with this April. Watching the movie, she wishes to be a news reporter, sort of similar to the 1987 version. But she gets nervous over the camera. So nervous in fact, that she... Well... Let's just say it's not pretty and cringy. Still, that April doesn't do much of fighting, as far as I'm concerned, and this could be a bit of a break from fighting after going through months with the other Aprils in the different realities.
Removing my bat from my holster, it glowed green with magical flames coming out. Starring at it, I knew that I decided to take a break from training and fighting. Closing my eyes, I started to envision the April from Mutant Mayhem. As I thought of that, I felt my bat getting lighter in my hand. Opening my eyes, I could see that the magic on my bat has faded and was slowly shrinking. It soon shifted into pen with the point on the end where the handle once was. Pretty soon, I had a pen that rests in the palm of my hands. Smirking, I knew the changes have started.
The world around me melted and blended into a vortex of colors. I was levitating in the air as I close my eyes and let the changes spread across my body. I can feel my body getting a little bloated and gaining some weight. My clothing was looking a bit dirty and was shifting. The yellow dress shrunk upwards and darkened into a black like color, becoming a regular T-shirt. My green jacket extended long and turned yellow, replacing the shirt that was once my tube dress. My pants have black legging grew down to become normal pants as it was coated in the most obnoxious green and a little torn up. But the one thing that was completely off are my feet and shoes. I mean, if you think the 2012 April legs were disproportionate, you could've seen the feet of Mutant Mayhem's April, they were shrinking very tiny as the yellow shoes became white as laces came out of it, looking a little clunky. The afro pigtails begin to unravel as the style changed into dreadlocks. As the bands snapped, my hair started alter into a mess of dreadlocks as it framed my face. And to top it off, a black snow hat appeared and covered a part of my head. In fact, the only change that didn't happen, were my glasses as they remained on my face.
As the changes wind down, the colors begin to darken and become gritty. Everything soon resolidify as New York was looking a bit more dark and gritty at night. I was still standing on the roof, but behind a neon sign that is similar to what I saw in the trailer. Looking down to myself, I could see that I have become the April O'Neil and living in the Mutant Mayhem world. I smiled and knew that I can finally take a break after the battles in other worlds. Digging into my pocket, I took out my writing pad and knew I'm back to being a reporter. With this, I can walk around the city without having to worry about fighting. I usually let the turtles do it.
Speaking of... If I were to guess, could still be in high school. If that's so, then perhaps I can hang out with them in a different way instead of fighting. Maybe this won't be so bad at all. Twirling my pencil, I start to think on what to do with them. After all, I will always be April, no matter what iteration it is.
Turning around, I decided to take my leave and start my next new life. But just as I was about to leave the rooftop, I started to feel sick and...
"Blargh..."
Guess the changes did a number on me. Guess this April cannot hold her stomach huh?
