These three character designs were collecting dust on my hard drive for a LOOONG time, some of them for years, in fact. So I decided to finally use them at least for something, if not just as standalone OCs.
Here is an assortment of orcs from the Wild Aeons setting. Specifically, these are from the planet Hort, which is a world within the Meltspace - a region of space containing most of the pre-Dream Melt human-inhabited territory, which has been cut off from the wider galaxy for thousands of years. While not native to Hort or any other worlds within Meltspace, orcs made it their home and have lived there for centuries. I will go in more detail about their history some other time - I already have it written down but I just need to make an artwork to go with it.
From left to right we have:
Champion of the Snow Palm clan, which is also known as Shum Rakh in the native tongue of its members. This is one of the many clans inhabiting the northern forests and mountains, building mighty forts high on the slopes and peaks and maintaining fields and pastures in the valleys below. The clans of that region take great pride in the legendary deeds of their hunters and warriors who helped to settle that harsh land full of mighty and dangerous beasts, as well as monsters spawned millennia ago from the chaos of the Dream Melt. The Snow Palm clan takes its name after the blanket of snow that covers the valleys in winter. Many renowned monster hunters and other champions come from the forts and villages of that clan and bring fame to their families through great feats of strength and cunning.
A cook of the Kafozob tribe. The tribe, the name of which translates as Rock Maw, is believed by many to be named so after the curved and jagged coastline along which they settle, the many rocky cliffs and capes of which give an impression of a giant maw, but in reality, their name comes back to the legendary ancestor and first great hero of the tribe. He got this nickname for making a bet that he could bite through a carapace of the great beast Tok and slay it. He lost his teeth during the first try, but replaced them with new teeth made of hard stone and with them managed to chew his way to the beast's heart and win the bet. The Rock Maw tribe's new homeland has a tropical climate, allowing them to subsist off of fruits, hunting and fishing, but switching from fishing to only hunting for half a year when they have to move further inland during the hurricane season.
And lastly, a potter from the Prancing Boar tribe, who in their native tongue call themselves Lyazka Ur'k. They live in temperate forests to the south from the northern clans such as the Snow Palm. This tribe is a rather young one and was formed after the orcs' arrival to Hort, beginning as an assembly of shattered fragments of other tribes who were faced with prejudice and violence of the world's native inhabitants who were terrified of some of the more warlike and expansionist orc nations and didn't care to distinguish between them and the others. The name of the tribe was chosen to signify their strength, stubbornness and vigor in the face of the challenges they face, much like those of the wild boars native to that land, who defy many a hunter and a predator. Prancing Boars are a sedentary tribe, building permanent settlements, mostly due to being surrounded by various distrustful neighbors and having an animosity with the elves who called these forests their home for centuries. They are, however, in a relatively good relationship with the local dwarf burrows.
