'The wise gods have divided their rule into eight domains".
The first domain is the Magic, ruled by its god Arach. It is the highest of all the domains, for magic permeates our entire world. Even those without the gift of weaving its threads feel its presence in their very souls.
Below it stand two elder and opposing domains. One is the domain of Order, whose supreme deity is the goddess of justice, Kel. The other is the domain of Discord, ruled by the god of fortune, the Unnameable.
And finally, there are five lesser domains, each embodying aspects of both Order and Discord. The domain of Death is ruled by its mistress, Morthial. The domain of Strife belongs to the god of war, Haggarard. The domain of Nature is governed by Viramir, while the domain of Life is ruled by the benevolent goddess Illara.
In the domain of the Elements, things are unlike any other: four deities hold supreme status within it. All of them command the basic elemental forces: Targos - earth, Phaeacis - air, Aydra - water, and Akka - fire.
And then there is Verter Dot, the young god of trade, who has never found a place in any domain, existing only on their borders.
So many concepts, aspects, elements, and contradictory principles. When we returned to the inn and began discussing our plan, it quickly became clear to me that it would be impossible to anger all these gods, so diverse in their nature, at once. I immediately regretted agreeing to this. I wanted to abandon this mad scheme and convince Johann to do the same. But his calm reasoning and confident demeanor made me reconsider.
He proposed that we start with the lesser domains, whose concepts weren't as broad and didn't consist entirely of Discord and Order. Here, there was a chance to circumvent the contradictions between the gods: some weren't directly connected, and thus, certain gods wouldn't pay attention to actions taken against others. With this decided, we opted to begin by renouncing the elemental deities.
The very next day, we set our plan into motion. Aydra, the ruler of water, was the first to be targeted, as we deemed water the easiest element to desecrate. We reasoned that tainting the water from an ordinary vessel would not be enough, so right from the first god our venture began to affect not uninvolved people.
At night we waited for the right moment and crept up to the fountain built by the priests, from which the poor usually drank. Johann summoned a swarm of insects and venomous reptiles and sent them to the bottom of the basin. The time they floated in the water was long enough to make it brown and foul-smelling. I comforted myself with the thought that no fool would drink from it. And so, the first deity was defiled.
Aydra's sister Akka was next, and here again we spoiled the lives of the destitute. That same night, in an alley nearby, we came across some vagrants warming themselves by a street bonfire. This time the initiative was mine: I created a protective dome over the fire, sharply compressed it, and thus extinguished the flames. To further disorient the vagrants and scare them even more, I conjured an illusory cloud of smoke, allowing us to flee unnoticed.
