I've posted a couple of pics of Video before, the jaguar Jacqueline McKinsley who gained the ability to travel between various display screens... every so often I feel like I've let old character languish in obscurity for too long and an idea pops up involving them. In this case, the idea involved asking
SonicSweeti to draw Video climbing out of a cell phone as if climbing out of a pool, going for just a touch of Trompe-l'œil.
Artist's posting at https://www.furaffinity.net/view/60201829/ so go check things out there, too!

Yeah, once the idea came to me, I had to do something with it. And Video needed some love.
Of course, the size she can exit at is limited to what she can fit through... which is why the second image I have of her involves a drive-through movie screen; it was just fortunate somebody was already doing a YCH based on a music video that did exactly that idea.

Oh, once she's found a particular cell phone she can keep a tag on it; same with tablet or TV screen. That said, it's still based on the physical device, not the phone number, so upgrading your cell phone and swapping the SIM card would stop her from being able to find you until she got close enough in the physical world to notice the new device.
Oh wow, I remember that. He'd start up a metronome to create a background ticking sound and then pretty much surf along the current through the wires. It was a fun idea, and it was completely valid on old mechanical/electric phone switches where there would be an actual physical circuit between the two phones (like with the old 'switchboard operators' who would have to physically plug a cable into a socket to connect a call) but it would already have been harder to justify by the time we had touch tone phones in the 1980s and the signals were electronically digitized.
What Video here does is really more sympathetic magic, she can move through anything that acts as a display screen: phones, laptops, TVs, even movie screens. I've got a bit more backstory here: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/40396356/

Ah, a fan, always nice to find. Mind I'll admit, my most memorable moment of him doing it is during Blackest Night, when he tried it on Hawkman...only for Hawkman to smash the phone because he didn't want to talk to Ray at the moment...and then turned into a Black Lantern driven corpse, and Ray Palmer became in Indigo Lantern for a bit to help fight the horde...comics are funny sometimes.
Anyway, neat, using screens like that. Always nice to see magic play with words to make things work. After all, magic is about willpower over reality, but reality needs to be malleable to make that work, so using word association to make a spell easier to cast is always a good way to do it.

Ahh, Indigo, the poor under-used tribe. I actually had Jenora drawn as an Indigo Lantern at one point, because honestly 'compassion' and 'wanderer' fit her best anyway.
I also tend to mostly run with the 'all superpowers are specialized forms of magic' concept anyway, much like Dave van Domelen's 'Academy of Super Heroes' universe. Because it's less of an ask to say 'some people can just bend the rules, usually in ways that match their personality' than it would be to actually come up with a set of rules that would allow superpowers without breaking physics as we know it.

Makes sense to me. Mind, I'm still greatly amused that for some 'super heroes' their powers are just what their species does naturally. And in both DC AND Marvel, the power of the human race? We can breed with ANYTHING. Which is why we have so many half human babies running around.
Mind, then Invincible gave that, along with all other powers, to the Viltrimites, so now we're not special there.
Regardless, good talk, always fun to find another comic fan...interestingly, I spent all day binging Linkara's Atop the Fourth Wall(His Crisis Compilation and some things around it).

Heh. I mostly remember Livewire from the Bruce Timm/Paul Dini Superman cartoon; there was one episode where she and Parasite ended up teaming up, which naturally didn't end well for either of them.
As I noted in the response to the above comment, what Video does isn't really electrical; it's more 'she can turn any working display screen into a portal to her personal pocket dimension'. And she can shift the size of the portal on the pocket dimension side to come out in the real world at any size that will physically fit through the screen. So, give her a chance to access an IMAX theatre, for example...
There's a little more to it than that, of course: she can keep a catalogue of every screen she's used in her pocket dimension, and revisit it no matter where it is as long as it's on, so she can effectively portal interstellar distances or even interdimensionally. She has an effectively infinite-size 'closet' she can store things in. She can even 'record' the physical appearance of anybody she takes through the portal with her, and then wrap herself in that appearance when she steps out again, allowing for near-perfect disguises.
It's a power that doesn't start with much but the longer that it's used the more options she has, and it really rewards the person who can figure out clever uses for it.

Definitely was never going to end well.
I liked it because not only did Superman win by smarts rather than strength, he won in large part because Parasite got greedy and drained Livewire's powers. That little smug smirk on Superman's face as he lifted the burning mop up to set off the sprinklers just made it.
Honestly that was one of the things I loved about the Dini Superman. He managed to give Superman a snarky edge without violating who Superman is supposed to be.
Lois, slamming a copy of the paper down on Clark's desk: "How does some hick kid from Smallville keep beating me to the scoops?"
Clark, sarcastically: "Well you see, Lois, I'm really Superman is disguise, using my job as a reporter to find out about things as they happen so I can fly to the scene, save the day, and then fly back in time to beat you to the byline."
Lois: "... You're a sick man, Kent." *stalks off*

It made him feel far more real. I mean, you cannot do his job as long as he has and not have a streak of gallows humor. But what made him truly "super" was that he took those lumps and kept his values intact anyway. ( Let's not mention Darkseid and Dark Mirror universes ). His famous "World of Cardboard" speech has been adopted by Sylia, albeit in a different context.
And I admire intelligent characters. Just because he was a flying brick doesn't mean he didn't have a brain. Watching him make a chump out of Mxyzptlk repeatedly was one of the funniest things to come out of the DCAU.
The quote was classic. She asked him, he answered with the truth, and because he couched it as snark, she didn't believe a word of it. Boy, I have to wonder if she remembered that conversation later when she found out he was telling the truth.

Yeah. Some people say Superman is a boring character to write for because he's too powerful, but from my end that just shows a lack of imagination. In some ways that's why people like Mister Mxyzptlk are the perfect Superman nemeses, in that they force Superman to use his brain.
And yeah, that first episode of the Dini Superman with Mxyzptlk was hilarious. In some ways the bit where Mxyzptlk marches into the portal with a walking robot, disappears, then reappears just a few seconds later without the robot and even more annoyed was one of the most hilarious scenes, partly because we have no idea what Superman did, but mostly because it was over so quickly and that just added to the humiliation.
There was one comic some years back now, during the period in which Luthor had his brain transplanted into a clone and was pretending to be his own nephew (because he'd been affected by Kryptonite poisoning after wearing the ring for so long)... Mxyzptlk trapped the both of them in a bar, had all but told Lex that he knew who he really was, and basically started hitting Superman with complicated drink pouring logic problems. The classic sort of "You have mugs that are 8oz, 5oz, and 3oz, and no measurement lines on any of them: how do you pour two 4oz drinks? After Superman solved the problem quickly despite Mxyzpitlk's interference attempts, Mxyzptlk finally went pouting back to the 5th dimension. Lex spoke up finally, making a comment about how he hadn't expected Superman to be able to solve things like that, and Superman (still not realizing this was the original Lex) said "All the strength and power in the world is no good if you don't know when and where to use it." Which gave Lex something to chew on for a bit.
If you're curious about the drink pouring problem, here's the solution, with the current amount in each of the mugs written as 8/5/3 if all are full:
- Fill the largest mug from the tap -> 8/0/0
- Fill the middle mug from the largest -> 3/5/0
- Fill the smallest mug from the middle -> 3/2/3
- Pour the smallest mug into the largest -> 6/2/0
- Pour the middle mug into the smallest -> 6/0/2
- Fill the middle mug from the largest -> 1/5/2
- Fill the smallest mug from the middle -> 1/4/3
- Pour the smallest mug into the largest -> 4/4/0
And you're done.

The mecha bit was probably the funniest. Capped by his girlfriend Ms. Gsptlsnz counting down to the exact second he reappears.
Honestly I can see Sara Watterson doing exactly the same thing. I imagine she's a very, very intelligent skunk. (One of many reasons Sylia likes her so much. She's a fellow scientist and explorer!)
The Elder Council of the 5th Dimension was part of my inspiration for the Elder Pod, though frankly, I kept expecting them to bust out Yiddish. Hazard of living in New York State.
