What is a Kowari? They are small, tenatious, carnivorous marsupials native to Central Australia (central Queensland) that only have four toes on their back feet instead of the usual five toes. They have large upright ears, a light-grey coat and a distinctive dense black brush on the end of their tail. They hunt at night for invertebrates, small mammals, reptiles, rodents, tarantulas, moths, scorpions and even birds and their eggs. They are currently endangered thanks to degradation and destruction of suitable habitat by livestock and predation by feral cats, dingoes, barn owls, and foxes. They are closely related to Tasmanian Devils and Quolls.
