I think Green Quetz finally realized how stupidly overmatched they are - too late. And Suzocon-sama is putting on quite a horrorshow about what a tatari-kitsune is capable of.
Green guy is either about to suffer a truly horrible death just to make a point, or Suzocon-sama is going for the line from Mulan:

He isn't half-trying, these are 4th and 5th level spells when he's 8th level. That's why I keep saying the guards, the protagonists, are stupidly overmatched by him.
But he seems to be after a lot bigger a fish than Saida or Brand. Killing her bodyguards, I would think, guarantees that Vetra-jou and probably Taran-ouji is going to show up sooner or later, and then it's gonna be *lit.* When the old gods fight... you really don't want to get between them.

Oh yes most certainly, and true. They're likely powerful to at least be a major inconvenience to him and his plans, especially working together. At the very least he has no interest in getting into a fight with them (otherwise he likely would've done so already), at least not yet
I think it's more likely Suzo leaves an illusion of himself and bails with the eye. He's not going to fight someone of Vetra's power without a plan... and he's got the PERFECT scapegoats to lay the blame on while he makes himself VERY scarce. Brand and Saida are about to be tried for GRAND theft McGuffin and treason, respectively!
Seriously, I figured the moment it was revealed that the kami of this island - the island that even Darya wouldn't go near - was an Eighttail - they were in incredibly deep poop.
