(Reposted the intro from the earlier string of concepts)
"When originally playing Warrowick, it was, and is, largely based of a modified dungeons and dragons system. As such, while certain races were swapped with furries because the group commanded it, a lot of the enemies were just DnD creatures. This included the infamous 'Mirages'. Creatures who sailed the stars in search of conquest, who crash-landed on the planet where Warrowick was thousands of years ago and began to steal the world's magic for themselves. In the actual game, these creatures turned out to by Mindflayers, which are essentially just humanoid Cthulu brain eaters. Just stick an octopus head on a man body and boom, Mindflayer.
Naturally, with Portal and myself wanting to turn Warrowick into a writing project that could potentially go somewhere, the Mirages needed to be changed. And so these are my concepts for the 'Mirage' race."
These are more or less the final head forms barring special deviations on crests. These guys started out heavily based on 'Idolomantis Diabolica', but different stabs at them took them all over the place, from injections of Incan and Egyptian iconography to ending up at an oddly shogun-looking creature with more organic, less armored portions that came from sea life. A lot of their 'dazzling' mind control stuff is...at least in my mind a combination of the concepts behind 'The Color out of Space' and the creature from 'IT's' deadlights.
