Welcome back to another Gun Day Sunday! So enough with the Krink build in these arts. Time for an AR counterpart with Vietnam War heritage. The XM177E2. A gun that, in my opinion, was not all that great but it paved the way to tremendous things.

I'm actually getting some rough ideas down for an M16A1 adjacent build once i finish up my current project AR in 5.45X39!
I mean, i actually have a set of Original A1 Triangular Handguards; be a darn shame to just waste them by keeping them in a box~
And hell, i *specifically* put an A4 carry handle on my BRN-180 just because i ADORE Carry Handles!~

I'm 100% with you 'bout that carry handle (And rear sights contained therein).
I had to BUY 'em for the two AR's I have (Ruger 556's), but due to the optic on my 'MPR' that one is just going to have to stick with that LONG rail. For now. Kinda sucks, gettin' Olde, and needing that optic to stretch out to the 800 yard distance, but I know for a fact I couldn't do it (Consistently) with simple irons.
'Nudder NICE thing about the original AR10 designed by Stoner, and that Ruger at LONG LAST built into their AR's: EASY TO REMOVE HAND GUARDS! (Try battling the damned A2's someday, and come back to me!)

I finally caved, and after MORE than forty years, invested in my first Ruger 10/22.
Now I'm having a field day with all the ways I'm going to 'Customize/Accessorize' eet!
Some folks collect shoes/clothing/bling. I prefer any and all things weapon/self-defense!
P.S.
Still got an AK (Or two) on my 'List,' but damned if the selection process for a 'Good one' tricky!
:-D

A little late, but I enjoy the appreciation of 'retro'-style AR builds. I admit I'm a bit of a 'fudd' in that fashion, but all three of my ARs(11.5" pistol, 16" carbine, and 20" rifle) rock the carry handle and fixed front sight post. It's just what I grew up around, and I admit I keep attachments on my rifles to a minimum. It's probably also why I like my AKs with either wood or polymer furniture... xD
That should be a very fun project! I'd love to see pics once that one's done. :)
I have a Zastava M70 that I've left pretty much from the factory; wood and all. It's a smooth shooter and I've enjoyed it immensely, though I've considered getting either their triangle or underfolder kit for it(neither require replacing the rear trunnion). I also recently picked up a Draco 9S on an impulse buy that I'm doing a 'the Vityaz we have at home' build for; I'm still waiting on a couple of parts for it.
I've also been tempted with adding a 5.56 AK to the collection, but my state's legislature just proposed a pretty strict ban so I might not be able to get my hands on one in time. I'll see how it shakes out, especially as most of my local ranges aren't particularly 7.62x39 friendly.
