Schnuff Schnapp, onomatopoeia may be hard to translate

simply put, schnuff or schnüff can be translated as sniff and schnapp as snap

May the "schnapps" alcohol have something related with the "schnapp" sound ?
Like so strong that it will snap you or nothing related at all ?

"Schnaps" as for alcohol and the Soundword "Schnapp" are not related.
Truth is, that the soundword is referring to a loud and very short kind of noise.
The origin of Schnaps, I don´t know.
