The Journal of the Last Viking: Entry 30 - Mountain of Ice
<<< PREV | FIRST | NEXT >>> A plant, like a flower for example, is called an invasive species when it starts growing in an area it is not native to. Though the flowers look beautiful and you want to keep them around, they take space and resources from the plants that are native to the area. This concept also applies to things in our lives, thought the flower that does not belong can take the form of a habit, an activity, or something else that we think is a great thing, but is draining time away from things that truly matter to us. To preserve the status quo, people will throw out and destroy anything that contradicts or would render useless the status quo, yet at the same time say they are open to change.
It may not be that this is done with malicious intent, rather the devil you know is better than the devil you don't. In other words, they could be afraid of change because it would remove what you are comfortable with and replaces it with uncertainty. Yes it is painful, but if it is endured, you will come out the other side stronger for it. If it helps, find someone you trust to help counsel you as you make the change to a better future. This s not to say you can't change alone, but it may become less tolerable if you do not have a Sam to your Frodo. Just keep going, you'll get there in time. Trust me.
