There's a story here....

There actually is, and I can relate it if you like!

Please, because I don't think I know anything of these characters.

For a number of years, I played RPG with a whole bunch of friends. One of the games we played was a furry-ized Spycraft. My character was a Polish roebuck named Jan Sarna (a bit of a joke, as that translates out as John Deer(e)). Originally, he was very much down on his luck and on the verge of killing himself when a mysterious spy agency recruited him. He had a whole series of adventures, including acquiring another spy as a lover (she's been depicted a few times). He eventually scraped up enough money to buy a brownstone in New York City to renovate as a home and a base for a solo agency (shades of Nero Wolfe). The wolfess to the left is a wolfess that he rescued in the course of one mission, and who happily agreed to work for him -- she's quite efficient.

Bartrop slipped in a number of jokes (e.g., the Maltese Falcon on the shelf), as well as the books themselves. One reason I liked his sense of humour.
