The AV-90 is the precursor to the modern Volkanov family of weapons produced by the VOLK Manufacturing Plant. This is very much their own form of the classic AK, taking a lot of cues from the original. However, there are plenty of changes and improvements to this weapon in comparison. Namely, the use of a left-hand linked charging handle is a significant improvement. This is considered a modern amenity, but it seems like the modern counterparts took inspiration from this rifle! The AV-90 also features a more simplified and modern selector switch, which was carried forward into the modern Volkanov family of weapons. This is much easier for the user to manipulate in comparison to the full size switch of the original AK. A unique folding stock and pistol-style pistol grip help the overall ergonomics of this weapon, as well. The production of this weapon came about when the VOLK Manufacturing Plant ended up losing their technical package for AK production, and decided to begin designing and producing what they thought would be the next evolution of the AK platform, coming to a head in 1990 with this final production model. All in all, this is a unique take on a classic rifle!
