My favorite method of cleaning ye olde flat top grill is a Belt Sander followed by a Fine Grit Polishing and then a heavy seasoning of an oil of your choice. Vegetable oil is cheap and does well, avocado oil is expensive but the seasoning layer is fucking indestructible, makes cleanup so easy.
