Something I thought of while chatting in a server yesterday.
If you want, read the narration parts in the voice of the narrator from "Slay the princess" because that was what I was thinking of while writing this haha

You cautiously eye the man in front of you.
He appears to be a magician. He had a long flowing cloak with many pockets, which appeared to have lots of small items in them. He did not look trustworthy, but he said he knew something about the whereabouts of your friend who recently vanished.
So against your better judgement, you had followed him into a back alleyway.
"You know my friend?" You ask.
"Why yes!" Came the reply. His voice is silly smooth, but you could detect an underlying tone of malice in it. Whatever he was planning to do, you were ready.
Or so you thought.
He reaches into one of his pockets and withdraws a gold coin. He waves his hands and conjures up a string which attaches itself to the coin. You think to yourself that this guy is really into magic tricks if he was going to perform one just to tell you where your friend was.
Then he starts swinging the coin. Left and right
Left and right
Left and-
"Hey are you going to tell me where my friend went or not?" You ask while staring at the coin go swing back and forth. Sure it looked pretty, and sure it was hard to look away, but you had better things to do.... Right?
The magician starts laughing maniacally. His body convulses in laughter that echoes down the dark alleyway you were both standing in. His hand, the one holding the the pendulum, continued to hover unmoving despite his violent convulsions. Going Left and right…
left and right …
left and right……….
Left and right……………
"What's so funny," you ask?
"Why don't you take a few steps closer, my friend? Look at the coin more closely, and I promise you all will be revealed! "
You take a few steps forward as though commanded. Your body feels weak and lethargic as you trudge closer to the coin. Even as it continued swinging, your eyes were glued to it. Although it was a bit harder as you got closer and had to actually turn your head a bit to maintain eye contact.
Despite the discomfort, getting closer to the coin actually makes you feel calmer. There was something about the way the light reflects off its surface that was mesmerizing. Hypnotic even. Especially as it swung left and right
left and right………………
left and right………………………
left and right………………………………
There was something on the surface of the coin. A face engraved on it. A familiar face. Where did you see that face before? Underneath the face was a name, also engraved in beautiful flowing letters. The name was... The name was.... The name of your friend!
"What... Is the... Meaning of..... This?" You ask. Speaking is slow and difficult. It is hard to concentrate over the details of the coin. It almost looks like the coin was glowing in the dim light of the alleyway, (Had the sun set since you entered the alleyway? How long were you in here?) like it was giving of light so you could continue see it swing left and right
Left and right………………………………
Left and right……………………………………….
Left...………………………………
.………………………………..right
Wait... What were you thinki-
Left......
Right....
Left..........
Right.....
Your body starts flattening. organs turning into metal, your limbs begin to retract as your abdomen starts to shrink and round out. Unlike the golden coin swinging in front of you, you take on a shiny silver color.
A part of you wants to panic, but another part insists that you continue looking at the pendulum. Although even that is getting harder as your eyes turned to silver and lost the ability to swivel in their sockets...
You began to subconsciously sway back and forth in a desperate attempt to maintain eye contact with the coin. The coin was all that mattered, and looking at it was all you needed to do… right?
Left...
Right...
Left...
Right...
“Here let me help you with that.”
Your... Owner? Reaches out and conjures up another string, and attaches it to the top of your shrinking body. Strangely, you don’t feel it contact your body at all, but you do feel a force as he pulled the string jerking you into a swinging motion. Left....
And right ......
Left......
And right........
He swings you in perfect time with the other pendulum, so that you don't even need to move your eyes to maintain eye contact. You were made for this. This is all you have to do. All you think about is swinging left and right
Left….
Right…..
Left….
Right…..
Your body continues shrinking, and all your features face melt into a sea of silver and bliss leaving only an outline of a face over some engraved letters. As your eyes lose their ability to see, your thoughts shift from focusing on the other pendulum swinging, to focusing on your own swinging.
Left….
Right…..
Left….
Right…….
Left….
Right…..
Left….
Right…..
Left….
Right…..
Every swing wipes away some of your previous life.
Left….
Right…..
Memories of you
Left….
Right…..
memories of the friend you were looking for
Left….
Right…..
memories your previous existence
Left….
Right…..
All your thoughts
Left….
Empty out
Right…..
until
there
is
nothing
left
Right….
Left….
Right….
Stop.
The magician pocketed his pendulum and snatched the coin from the air before it hits the ground. The newest item in his collection. He couldn't wait to use it on other victims. Looking closely at it, he could see a face engraved in its center. And a name was engraved in beautiful silver letters under it. Shining in the light of the setting sun. They spelled the name of his latest victim, although he didn't really care about things like names.
Dancing happily back to his house, he placed the new coin, along with the one he used to obtain it, onto a shelf by the fire place with countless other coins, watches, rings, pendulums, etc
"I hope you enjoy being a part of my collection, although you don't really have much of a choice!" He laughed.
The coin said nothing, for it was only a coin, and there was nothing left to say otherwise....
Right?
