Quick story for Halloween. Had a weird dream about this so I had to quickly write it down before it vanishes from my brain.

"Dad can we PLEASE go trick or treating?"
Emmet looked up from his newspaper to see his two daughters holding empty halloween baskets their eyes bright and pleading.
"Sorry kids, but there's been a lot of disappearances lately, and I want to make sure you're safe. Besides, you don't even have a costume!"
"Aw come on dad!"
The anthro otter continued reading the newspaper. Skimming over the latest disappearance in the newspaper. A family of ferrets had vanished last week, adding onto the list of people that have gone missing. The police force were scratching their heads as there were never any signs of a break in and the victims were never found. Dead or alive. Thinking about it, the victims were always at home when the disappearances happened, so maybe the whole family going out to trick or treat would actually make them safer somehow.
"The girls are calling you a spoilsport, dear"
He looked up to see his lovely wife, Olivia in the hallway with a jar of treats, getting ready for the trick or treaters that would be coming.
"I just don't want them going out at night by themselves." he replied, turning quickly back to his paper. "You know, with all the disappearances?"
Just then the doorbell rang.
"Well apparently, that didn't stop the other parents from sending their kids out trick or treating." she said with a laugh. "Lets see who our first visitors are."
Emmet sighed and continued reading. Maybe he WAS a little too paranoid. But what if there was something out there? Something... supernatural? He felt chills just thinking about it. Was that just because Olivia had opened the door to greet whoever was there?
He heard the door close again.
"So who was it, dear?"
"I don't know there was no one there when I answered. Probably some kids playing a Halloween prank."
She went back to the kitchen, leaving Emmet alone with his thoughts... Or so he thought
Suddenly the living room lights went off.
Spooky.
Or maybe they just blew a fuse.
Emmet sighed and grabbed a flashlight and headed to the garage to fix it.
He quickly found the fuse box and yes, the living room one was switched off. "Must have been a power surge," he thought. He reached towards the switch to flip it back on, and then...
He felt weird like he was floating. He heard a crash and he registered his body lying on the garage floor. Wait! How could he see his own body??
"HAHAHAHAHAHA"
A ghostly laugh echoed through his ears. A fox like spirit appeared in front of him. Laughing and doing flips in the air.
"You fell for it! They always fall for it!" It laughed
"You! You did this to me?" Emmet shouted. Getting a good look at the spirit, he noticed it walked on all 4 legs instead of 2.
"Well, all I did was set up the fuse box to electrocute you, but look at you now! Having an out of body experience, are you?"
Emmet looked down to inspect his body closer, but the fox jumped in front of him before he could get a good look.
"Come on! Let's have some fun! I would sure like to mess around with the rest of your family!"
The fox floated off, and Emmet floated after him terrified of what the spirit was planning. In his hurry, he failed to notice his body starting to shift.

"Are you alright in there, dear?"
Olivia heard the crash and assumed her husband had bumped into something. she turned back to the pumpkin cookies on the counter. Homemade cookies always made the trick or treaters exceptionally happy. She just needed to frost them. She was so busy that she didn't notice the stove behind her click open.
"I guess she won't notice if I just do this~" the fox said, flicking the gas canister under the stove. Invisible gas started pouring out, flooding the room and pushing out the essential oxygen
"NO!" Emmet shouted "Don't do that!" he tried to turn off the stove, but the fox kept one paw on the dial, and wouldn't let him turn it. Besides, his hands were feeling a bit stubby and hard to move. His fingers looked a little shorter, but he didn't notice, as he was watching in horror as his wife slowly lost consciousness on the counter.
Her spirit soon floated out from her body and joined him. Is that what happened to him back in the garage?
"W-what happened?" she asked groggily.
"Olivia!" Emmet shouted.
"Emmet? What are you doing? Why are you floating? Why am I floating??" Olivia panicked. The fox doubled over laughing.
"Two down, two to go!" he laughed.
Emmet knew who the spirit would be targeting next, and he was terrified. He would not let the spirit harm his daughters
"Emmet your hands"
Olivia had floated up to him, and grabbed his arms which were now half the size they were before. He also appeared to have shrunk a bit, being only half the size he was before.
"Listen, Olivia. Forget about what's happening to me. The spirit is trying to hurt our daughters! I'm going to try and stop him. Can you keep an aye on our bodies in the meantime? Try to turn off the stove."
Olivia watched her husband float off after the fox spirit and sighed. She turned off the stove, and pushed open one of the windows to let in some fresh air so she wouldn't asphyxiate. Floating back to the garage, she gasped.
Looks like her husband's spirit wasn't the only thing changing.
His lifeless body was changing. Limbs retracting into a more quadruped stance. His clothes looking more ill-fitting as he shrunk.
She looked at her own paws and noted they were also starting to shrink. Floating back to the kitchen, she saw her own body was also changing. She tried entering it again, but something was preventing her from entering. Almost like there was already someone in there...

"Stupid dad,not letting us trick or treat" Tulip said.
"Yeah he's such a spoilsport" Rose agreed
"Let's turn his bathtub into a ho tub to get revenge. Ruin his electricity bill"
"Good idea"
They turned on the faucet and watched as the tub filled up. Neither of them noticed the soap that slid across the floor waiting for them to step on it

Emmet was floating on all fours after the fox. His limbs had shifted into a quadruped stance, but he didn't care. All he wanted was to make sure his daughters were safe from that spirit.
He heard the sound of running water and entered the bathroom to see his daughters lying in front the bath tub and also in the air above it.
He was too late
"Dad! What's going on??" Tulip cried.
"YOU GUYS SHOULD HAVE WATCHED YOUR STEP" the fox laughed. "You never know if the next step will be the last!"
Emmet was filled with rage
"YOU! HOW DARE YOU!" yelled Emmet. Or at least he tried to yell. His voice was stating to sound a lot squeakier.
"Oh looks like your body is almost done," said the fox.
"Emmet something is wrong!" Olivia floated inlooking almost exactly like her husband.
"Well looks like you're done too" the spirit said. Come on in.
The door opened an in walked... Emmet and Olivia?
They walked in on all fours having been transformed into feral otters. Tattered pieces of cloth hung on them, the remains of the clothes they were wearing.
The spirits watched in shock as their bodies moved without them piloting it.
"Let me introduce you to my two sisters," the fox spirit said. "They were working on your bodies while I was away, looks like they did a good job, huh?"
the two otters slumped to the ground as two more fox spirits floated up from them.
"Hello, pleased to meet you!" they shouted in glee.
"Why are you doing this!?" Emmet shouted.
"Well, to be honest, it's just fun" said the fox "It's halloween, you know! A time where everyone dresses up in costumes! But whats better than dressing up? Actually changing! And speaking of change, there's two people left here to change... Sisters, If you would be so kind,"
The two foxed hopped into the two remaining anthro bodies and began changing them.
"But what are we supposed to do then? Shouted Rose. "Are we just gonna be ghosts forever?" Her hands were starting to change along with her physical body's hands. Turning into cute paws.
"Relax," said the fox "I*'ll give you back your bodies after this"
"But how are we supposed to live in these forms?" said Tulip. "We won't even have hands anymore"
"You'll just have to get used to it I guess."
"You think we will get used to it?!" Emmet asked. "You have to fix this right now!!"
"Oh don't worry, it will be fixed. Just not in the way you'd expect..."
With a flash and a laugh, Emmet found himself back inside his body. At least what used to be his body. Now it felt completely foreign. He would have to get used to walking on all fours...
Padding up to his wife, he tried to talk, but found he could only make chittering noises.
He wondered what they would do now that they were in this state. They couldn't even reach the countertops anymore, much less order food.
Suddenly everything started glowing. Emmet closed his eyes and when he opened them, they were in a completely different place. Instead of a bathtub, the running water sounds came from a stream, and instead of the bathroom, they were in a hollow tree. Looking out, he could see autumn leaves and pumpkins everywhere.
Emmet was disoriented. He looked around to see his wife and daughters, who also appeared to be panicking from this change in scenery. He quickly stumbled outside,to make sense of things, still unfamilliar with how his legs worked. What he didn't account for, was that the river was right outside the hole in the tree.
Plunging in to the water, he could feel something washing away. Something important, but he couldn't remember what it was. The more he swam, the more confident his strokes became, like they were muscle memory.

The otter chittered in confusion as he felt lighter. As he swam towards the edge of the river, he struggled to remember why he was so terrified a few seconds ago. He couldn't remember so he just shook off the water, his remaining concerns washing off with the water droplets.
Looking towards his hollow, he saw his mate and his pups calling to him. Padding over to them, he noticed they appeared frightened. Although he couldn't think of why they would be like this. there were no predators around, and everything appeared to be fine... Maybe they just needed a swim.
For some reason, they seemed to struggle as he pushed them towards the river. They were otters, so why were they afraid of going for a quick swim? But as each of them fell in, they emerged much more relaxed and happy. Helping to encourage the remaining family members to go for a swim too. Soon, there was nothing left but a family of happy otters frolicking in the stream...

Police reported another disappearance, this time, being a family of otters. Trick or treaters reported nobody answering the door, and when the police arrived, they didn't find anything other than a few tattered clothes, a running tap in the bathroom, and some cookies. It was a mystery what happened to them, but as they left, they could have sworn they heard three voices laughing...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
An otter woke up to greet his mate, who was currently nursing their newest pup. Looking up, he saw his two older pups playing with the family of ferrets across the stream. They were sticking to the shallower part of the stream since the ferrets were not as good swimmers as the otters.
Yawning, the otter got up and padded into the autumn woods to hunt for his family.
