I am happy to share with you the piece, of which I posted a sneak peek on BlueSky.
This art is damn intricate ಠ_ಠ Not just the visuals, but all the little tidbits about the world and the characters I've put in there too. I am curious if anyone would be up to the challenge of trying to find some of them~ If you wanna play this game, let me know what you've found in the comments and I'm sharing a key to what I've been planning for it below (just highlight it):
⟐ The walls are covered not with paint, nor tiles, but in colorful crystals, creating an intricate pattern. This is a sort of extravagance that only the wealthiest could afford.
⟐ The tiger's clothes are dyed purple - one of the most expensive colors for fabric in ancient times. The kingly association with the color lasted to more modern times.
⟐ The jewellry of both characters is different in style and quality.
⟐ The tiger has heavier patterns, requiring more gold, thus his jewellery is richer, despite being less intricate. This suggests his in a higher social standing.
⟐ His jewellery patterns are a set. They're also more worn. This might be due to age. Why would someone with a high social standing and surely very wealthy wear old stuff? Because they have some more meaning to them, and as the purple clothing hints, they're most likely regal insignia.
⟐ The insignia have more definite, sharp-angled shapes, which, along with their worn look, may point to them being made in some older times. There is likely some meaning to the pattern as well, so let's seek it out. We have a repeating set of multicolor gemstones in there.
• There is a hint in the ornament above the doorway: They are matching color scheme of a sky right after sunset. Since it's most likely the king's palace, there may be a significance to this pattern, as decor often reflects the history, ideology or beliefs of the culture designing it. If we go back to the jewellery, now it's easier to see that the color of the gemstones in the belt reflects the colors of the sky during various times of the day, with the middle gemstone symbolising the sun. With this we can guess that sun is somewhat connected with royalty, which was a common practice in many cultures.
• The many angled shapes and thick elements may signify strength; a feature necessary for a ruler.
⟐ Now let's move onto the stag's jewellery. It's more intricate and subtle, with many flowing lines, making it look somewhat feminine. This, in comparison to the tiger's set, suggest that the society they're from can be patriarchal.
⟐ There's plenty of bird patterns in the stag's set. This can be a coincidence, but also can be of cultural significance. Taken the submissive position of the stag and his rich decorations, we may conclude, that for the society the birds have a decorative role. But birds are also a source of food, whether from eggs or as meat. Thus they're both utilitarian and beautiful. Perhaps the stag's role is also this: he's to present himself beautifully and to satisfy the needs of his master.
⟐ The jewellery the stag's wearing is very uncomfortable for sure. Many dangling bits, many parts interconnected with chains, including some attached to piercings of his sensitive areas. The neck piece is basically a fancy metal collar. This is a pretty good signifier that he's not wearing it out of his own free will.
⟐ The scarce clothing of the stag, especially compared with a more elaborate outfit of the tiger further proves he might be a servant or a slave; it was very common for slaves to go naked or barely dressed even if they didn't have sexual roles. Clothing was a sign of social standing and the rule was: the more the better.
⟐ The tiger has retracted claws, likely due not having any ill intentions. The claws are, however, visible, because he is excited by the situation.
⟐ The stag moves his head to the side, letting his master access to his neck. Nevertheless, he's looking at him a little uncertain. Big cat's licks can be quite abrasive, so he might not enjoy this particular caress as much as the tiger. He is still tenderly reaching out to his side with his further hand and untying his hip scarf. Whether he's genuinely looking forward to the encounter, or being an obedient slave, I will leave to your further interpretation ; )
If you have some other ideas, share them too. Perhaps I will make them canon~? Or perhaps I forgot about something, making this longish list and thanks to you I will be able to add it.
The stag and the tiger are characters from Ryfer's backstory. I haven't named them yet, I hate coming up with names, especially when I don't wanna use any existing ones xd
