This is probably fine.

Suuuure, Suzocon-sama. You're going to keep Vetra-jou's little toy and figure out how to recharge it yourself. Now why might that be? If you were just interested in keeping it off of Vetra-jou's fat neck, you could destroy it, but no, you want to use it...
For what?
He may be sincere about giving them back their proper bodies, but I bet he intends them never to leave that island alive... or as themselves.

Because it's a powerful, useful, and interesting magical shiny?
And studying what it can do may give him insights into whatever Vetra is planning/capable of with her pile of similar stones. Considering she has dominion over the sun and is trying to conquer the moon, anyone would have cause to be concerned about her ambitions.
Plenty of completely legitimate reasons in addition to merely advancing his ownnefarious mysterious ambitions.

It seems more and more likely that the tail in the fake-eye was Suzocon's, and he wants it back.
Question is, what if it's no longer there, because of Roko's meddling? He might find that he can never get his ninth tail. I'm sure his wrath will be terrible should that come to pass.

His sense of entitlement bothers me. He just said "it's under my protection now." He just flat up said something like "it's mine now, fight me for it if you dare."
The least he could have done was say "I'm taking this as PAYMENT for my services." This establishes him as someone who will do something ... anything ... simply because he is stronger, and doesn't feel the need to be subtle about it.

It's hard to say. He's an extremely powerful kami and this is his shrine and his island. "Everything here belongs to me, including YOU" isn't an uncommon attitude in folklore.
But it lends him quite a sinister air, and then you add Virmir's Variations to him... that's why I believe this dude may be the Big Bad.
He SEEMS helpful and curious. But there's a reason the trope "Affably Evil" exists. The Japanese are polite to a fault. Doesn't mean someone like Suzocon-sama won't sink a dagger into your back the moment he sees it advantageous to do so.

Imagine, for a moment, a Soviet Nuclear weapon had been lost in Afghanistan (This is NOT! political allegory, the hypothetical bomb was lost some time in the 1980's) at some point. Not armed or about to go off, but a Nuclear bomb is just there. A village has sprung up in the area, and though nobody wants to deal with the bomb (And don't have any idea what it is), it's still dangerous.
Let's just suggest a British ambassador randomly found the village, and the bomb. They are going to let the British Government know about it, at which point the British (or US) military is likely to come in and take the bomb away. You can't just leave nukes lying around. Sure, they'll probably recompense the village by building some solid houses and maybe digging a couple good wells, but the bomb has to go somewhere it can be relatively safe.
That's what I figure Suzucon is doing. Taking a VERY valuable and extremely dangerous artifact out of play.

If all he was going to do is warehouse it like the Ark of the Covenant, then fine (sorta, I still say he he shouldn't have just outright laid claim to it citing Might Makes Right.) However, he mentioned that he wants to replicate quetz lightning so he can recharge it on demand. Using your example, swap out your British Ambassador with "hostile third world nation", who wants to take the nuke and learn how to replicate it for their own purposes.
It also shows that his dealings have the potential for undesirable escalation (the Lando Dilemma). What was once "I'm going to take and study this" (without asking permission, even if Brand/Saida aren't the "rightful owners", they're the current orb bearers) went to "It's mine now." Probably fair to assume he's taking these liberties in the past (fairly easy if a person has a god complex, irrespective of lore.) Remember Darya's warning (to the audience).

Why is that a problem? Or better way to ask it I suppose, why is that their problem? And when your guests no longer have value to you... typically, you just let them leave. What reason would he have not to? He's clearly not worried about anything they might do, if he's not even worried about those much more powerful than them. And I've seen no evidence of any malicious intent, at least not to Brand and Saida.
If Vetra wants to make an issue of that, that's between her and Suzocon I guess. I see no reason why Saida and Brand would care.

He doesn't strike me as someone who cares much about what other people know about him. Otherwise he wouldn't have been as open to them as he has been. Lies and secrets are only necessary for those you fear. There's not likely many people he fears.
Unless Brand and Saida choose to intervene directly there's not really anything they can do with the information that would even so much as inconvenience Suzocon significantly.
I already know from the next panel they don't want him to have the thing. Not what I would have chosen, but hey I RP differently lol; I tend to play characters that have little to no desire to get involved with things above their paygrade unless they really have to.

I am not expecting any sort of betrayal. Suzucon is almost definitely trying to remedy their condition, and considers the (false) eyestone to be a fair compensation. I am inclined to agree. However, I don't think the ritual is going to work. Too many hanging plot threads for our leads to have their primary conflict resolved this early.
That's the problem Saida and Brand most care about, but it's not their only problem, and it wouldn't solve Roko's problem (I mean, if that's even solvable, can't exactly cure death, not easily anyway). Although it's kind of funny to me that someone thinks solving their problem after over 300 pages and 3 years constitutes solving it "early."
I mean, if I were either of them though, it sounds like a fair price. The only reason the false eyestone has any value to them is to solve their problem, so why not give it up? Saida wouldn't be welcome back, but I get the impression she no longer wants to go back anyway. If Vetra wants to fight Suzocon for that thing, that's her problem.
My point here though is Suzocon is pretty forward and up-front; he's too powerful for him to see a reason to lie. Lying is something you only do to people that you fear using the truth against you. He won't stab anyone in the back; he doesn't have to. He'll certainly stab you in the front if you get on his bad side, but at least you'll see it coming.

To be fair though, narrative causality tells me it probably won't be that easy, but well no reason Brand and Saida shouldn't think so based on everything they know at this point. If I were either of them I'm thinking, sounds like a fair price, and as to what Suzocon would do with the thing afterwards, not our problem. Their entire journey so far was just trying to get their bodies back, not save the world or solve everyone's problems. Sidequests were entirely incidental.
Suzocon has been very straight-forward so far. He's powerful enough he doesn't feel a need to lie; lying is something you do to people when you're worried about what they can do to you if they find out the truth. No need to worry he'll stab you in the back. Sure, if you get on his bad side, he'll still stab you in the front, but at least you'll see it coming.
