I think that Suzocon-sama just discovered an important truth. Perhaps a truly critical truth, about Vetra. Having an arcane artificer working with you has its advantages, whoever's side he's actually on.
She's been greedy for these gems for a while. She keeps upping her price for rain to get more and more of them. And even the "theft" of a single gem was enough to get her to rip Brand's wings off his back.
Is this why? Is it because these gems are both the composition of and powering her Eyestone?
( 100 years is barely adolescent for a kami of the level of Saida-hime! And when we were first introduced to her, she indeed acted like a big goofy teenager. )
As Alice would say. Curiouser and curiouser.

You're welcome. It's just a gross estimate based on Saida's skill level and the sorts of lives demigods/kami are expected to live. The first time she was introduced, she looked and acted like a gangly teenager, but she still had quite a high level of magic skill. Maybe this whole experience aged her some mentally.
The more information and interaction we get with Lord Suzucon, the less I think he's a probable antagonist. With all the corruption we see going on with various deities/guardians so far, he seems relatively unaffected. We still have yet to see if he's a "good guy," but I'm starting to think his research will be really important to dealing with future problems.
I have a deep suspicion I know who Suzocon-sama really is. But the thing is, even if I am right, we only got his story from one side, and from an event that happened centuries ago. It could be he's what I call a True Neutral - "A character who does what seems to be a good idea. He doesn't feel strongly one way or the other with good vs. evil or law vs. chaos."
He does whatever he thinks will advance his interests. He does nothing out of compassion or generosity. If being helpful is useful to him, he will be helpful. But if he decides an act of villainy will advance his interest better, he would do so. Do remember he was ready to erase them at a moment's notice because he thought they were withholding the truth - when he's been withholding a BIG truth from them all along...
Miyo-kun.

To be fair, they were lying to him, and their story was not very well worked out.
Given how carefully he regards the truth and manners, was it really an unreasonable response? I figure this is more like young Agent K in MiB III, and why he cancelled the neuralyzer. "That was the truth. Maybe not the whole truth..."
The only outside information we have about Suzucon is Darya saying "I would have treated them nicer." Given her predilection for Mind control, I'm not even particularly inclined to believe her.
Note: I just don't believe he's going to be one of the major antagonists in the story moving forward, and given his reaction to Vetra's possibly fake Eyestone, I'm inclined to believe he's concerned about the Quetz manufacturing powerful magical artifacts and possibly how all the factions we've met (*not villages/villagers) have been gearing up for war.
Given his apparent neutrality to the conflicts of the various gods that's brewing, I think he's going to be quite important in resolving some of the issues that Brand, Rokko and Saida are going to find themselves in. Will they probably butt heads with him eventually? Probably, but I don't think it's going to be a major conflict in the overall story.

Well, that explains why Vetra hasn’t bothered looking for it, it’s a replica. It’s also pretty cruel that the stone that took Brand’s wings was made from the “offerings” of the townspeople who pays him with bottle-caps.
He doesn’t hold anything against being “short changed”, doesn’t demand a piece of the good stuff they give to the Quetz, and because of them, the Quetz have the power to take the wings from the good Dragons for the wrong reasons.

We only have Suzocon-sama's word on its nature. If he truly found an Eye of Omin would he tell them? And even if he is telling the truth, that's still a very powerful arcane artifact. It might explain why she's so greedy for those gems, though. They aren't going into her treasury. They're being used to keep that artifact powered up.
How could it be a lie, when what Suzocon says it’s actually made up of is consistent with something he’d have no way of knowing?
It’s also more likely that it’s a replica, rather than the idea that Vetra just randomly happened to find a piece of *God* when she needed something to fight the Puppetmancer with.
