The best part of being an episodic cartoon with a status quo to maintain is how you'll have an infinite amount of time to adjust to being a squirrel girl in cartoon middle school.

Fascinating.
She can't remember her original identity in the show. She has the notion that she was a human, but having lived and acted as Kiff for quite a while, her original mentality is degraded and little by little her character adapts to her new self. And the conclusion is terrifying, so much time has passed in fiction that she stopped counting time a long time ago and she doesn't care at all. She doesn't care if she was human, she doesn't care about finding a way to come back, she's not interested in doing something different because the stories will always follow the course in which they were written, with the others unable to remember or learn anything, going around in an endless cycle. And our poor protagonist has the cruel curse of remembering every loop, every story. So to avoid total madness she embraces her new identity completely, acts as she should, says her lines in every episode, and up to a certain point she loves being Kiff, she enjoys it, she has reached a point of perfect union and synchronicity. Humanity simply doesn't matter, nothing matters, because Kiff will always live the same thing over and over and over again.
