Shadow is a clone from the 25 vat line, therefore she has a big old '25' tattoo'd into her wings, done in a form her body cannot remove or heal from. I sort of imagine as she ages after escaping from her maker's control if she'd at least try to cover the '25' markings. She probably wouldn't at first, wanting to remind herself of what she came from, but as she aged, maybe. This was an idea of ow she'd cover it. Worms and her own tail, the things she's connected to.
