M.A.D.A. 38th Fighter Evaluation Squadron "Mad Scientists"
The 38th Fighter Evaluation Squadron, known colloquially as "The Mad Scientists" is the primary Squadron used to test and evaluate new or upgraded airframes of the fighters of the M.A.D.A. Based out of Hy'Nul Aerospace Station in northern Yn'Ko the squadron receives fighters from the manufactures to run them through tests to make sure they are acceptable for mass production and service. The squadron is also responsible for testing field modifications and upgrades for existing airframes to improve all aspects from aircraft handling, maintenance, performance, and costs. Most notably the squadron is most infamous for the various weapons evaluations is does for different aircraft, including the addition of torpedoes to the KN-570 Stuka, underwing gun pods to the KN-220 Din'Hau, and the development of the "Sinking Corkscrew" maneuver. As one of the various "sub-hundred" squadrons (meaning its Squadron number is under 100), these squadrons are split between the M.A.D.A. and Navy for various purposes. Since no squadron number is reused under the Mai'No'Tian organization system, it allows the easy identification of which branch a squadron falls under, with even hundreds (200, 400, 600 etc.) belonging to the Navy, and odd hundreds (100, 300, 500, etc.) belonging to the M.A.D.A. The sub-hundreds are squadrons responsible for many supporting roles such as development, evaluation, testing, and training, with other examples being the 1st and 2nd Aerial Demonstration Squadrons of the M.A.D.A. and Navy respectively, the 92nd Aggressor Fighter Squadron of the M.A.D.A., and 16th Attacker Training Squadron of the Navy.
