STAR WARS IS THE MOST DISAPPOINTING THING SINCE MY SON.
My boy Finn deserved better, dammit.
Babble below.
Ahhh, what a waste of potential for a Star Wars character. When the force awakens trailer first came out, I was excited to see that we would be getting a character from a Stormtrooper background. I would have love to see a good-natured character battling against their imperialistic military upbringing and coming to terms with the changes that life brought. I even theorized that THIS could be the character with the force this time, with an internal battle for whether they landed on the light or dark side. Their nature vs nurture moment with more universal consequences.
Alas, he just seems to quickly get over his previous life and is kinda sidelined compared to Rey and Kylo Ren. This rebellion in him all gets triggered the first time he sees the death of a friend in battle...something you'd think he'd be trained for. It should have been more meaningful, it felt to me like a footnote in the story.
His character does act out the more fun aspects of that film series; crashing a casino and freeing its 'space horses' and raiding a space battle-ship using DIFFERENT 'space horses'. But he should have been a major player, with deeper aspects of his character and history explored.
