You're giving Nickelodeon too much credit. Nobody there had ever heard of Soylent Green. They weren't worried about kids "getting" things, they were worried about "imitatable behavior." They censored the comics mercilessly and never understood the jokes.

Marvel was okay with this. Nickelodeon objected. We had to submit everything to Nick's consumer products division for approval. They were the ones who did almost all of the censoring.

I don't even wanna know how Ren knows what kittens taste like....a gazillion dirty jokes come to mind....and if I had actually read this in the comic, I'd have lost it even worse. More than once this duo has saved my life in some fashion or another with right chuckle at the right time. I literally feel like a kid in a candy/comic store, having stumbled upon a lot of original works, including the entire comic itself, which I didn't even know existed, up until just a couple years ago.
