It's no secret that I find Leslie Kennedy much harder to come up with artwork ideas for than the rest of the main SPCM cast - her cynical outlook on life doesn't really lend itself to the kind of humour I usually draw. Indeed, this piece started off as a fairly bog-standard view of her and Tamara Bateson carrying out an inspection on some random piece of equipment. I decided that a damage control locker was the most logical thing for them to be inspecting, and I drew this accordingly. However, something seemed pretty flat about the finished picture, so a day or so later, I went back and added the joke of Maddi Norton having misappropriated the fire extinguisher for a practical joke.
