I like a story that just keeps tossing them from one event to another. There are a lot of stories I read that once they hit a climax they mellow for a long stretch of time. While others tend to reveal to much at the start, I can guess the entirety of the story. Most stories accidentally do it in the description or the prologue. “Only he can save the world.” Or “he is born with a great power only he can wield.” Wings of fire did that. They made the trail to obvious making it easy to follow the plot eight chapters ahead before reading it. Maybe it’s just me and knowing that regardless of how the plot unfolds the MCs won’t die.

Having my MCs underpowered has greatly allowed me to easily keep the plot concealed while also allowing me to move the plot forward without having to spend a whole lot of time setting the stage. A weak Mc faces a lot more challenges than a powerful one. Take dragon ball Z for example you have all these powerful people that pop up and wreck everything. Your average joe is just a bystander. No point in lingering on them and their daily lives because I know they won’t stand a chance against the guy firing off mini nukes but a weak Mc in the average joes shoes having to use their wits and knowledge to survive an encounter. I could read that all day. Anyway I spent to much time on this rant.
