but as far as the spotlight goes,

More good advice for how to get people to listen to your music:

STOP PUTTING IT DOWN

I find new artists by browsing the front page's music section. That's it, just 8 chances to find someone new, but it works like a charm more often than not. And yet, when I mouse over a thumbnail and see "Oh, this is total crap but I'm putting it up anyway", I tend to simply agree with the poster and move on. If you think it's crap, why shouldn't I take your word for it instead of wasting time I could be using listening to actual good music?

Similarly, don't say, "Oh, I was bored and made this." That's not a good excuse to make music, it never comes out good. If you're bored, put your mind to something. If you want to make music, approach with a purpose, or at least put some effort into it. The amount of times I see either of these things is astounding.

More tips for getting noticed: Network. Promote yourself...sometimes shamelessly. The only way to get exposed is to make sure others know you exist. And while a lot of doors may be slammed in your face, you'll also eventually come across people willing to give you a chance and either feature you or guide you on how to improve enough to where they WOULD want to feature you.

What's more: WORK. Music won't make itself. Your skills won't improve on their own. Your exposure won't grow without your own effort, either (as I stated above). So put in the time and effort to get better.

Honestly there needs to be a change up in the categories for this.

Tired of seeing Covers under the instrumental sections. Good original instrumental pieces are being pushed out for covers of other people's works. There should be an instrumental cover, and an instrumental original category in my opinion.


Cause, for a profile that's meant to express the furry music community in it's entirety, it certainly doesn't do a good job of showing it's variety with these spotlights.

I'm sorry you feel that way! Keep in mind that many of the categories cross. An Instrumental Cover will qualify for both Instrumental as well as Cover. Original Instrumentals qualify for Original, Cover, and Asia. A song with vocals may also be a Cover or an Original. The Asia Award keeps an open slot for any genre as well. I promise not every week holds a cover in the instrumental spotlight :)

These tips are helpful, and add a nice community touch to the furrymusicians spotlight. In my personal opinion, we need more talks and discussions throughout the show between songs, just to have some variation and other interesting little bits and pieces.

My excuse is that Im not that good to release professional work yet haha, still alot to learn about DAW's and the likes even though I have all the required equipment to produce good music.
