"The most important part is, that we all did it together and had fun doing it! Isn't that what being creative is all about?" -The Heartful Bandit
(I am uploading everything from my DA to my FA that's backlogged, all stuff is copied and pasted from the description)
Hee-Ho, howdy everyone. Today I bring you a 15-minute digital doodle I quickly dotted down. No sketch-work, just jumped right into the line art on this one. Truthfully the description of this piece is going to take much longer than me drawing the picture if you'd lend me some of your time. It's pretty much me rambling about a few things, but it might have some merit.
I've been thinking a bit on the dynamic of many of my Minecraft "OCs" so to speak. The Heartful Bandit being the youngest out of everyone (being 22 in age), but probably being the most bright and cheery outside of the Tutorial Dragon- The Daughter of Ender, being a dragon, is probably a few hundred years old, and I already explained somewhere that Alan, the broody guy himself is in his late 40s. Although I want these duo characters to be the same side of a coin. The Tutorial Dragon tries to cheer Alan up, while the Bandit tries to cheer the new Ender Dragon up.
In this piece, I kind of wanted to go over... "Expectations" when it comes to building in Minecraft. Come on, let's be honest with ourselves, I think we've all browsed the internet, staring in awe at someone's creations and feeling terrible about our own. That we all want to build that cozy little minecraft log cabin cottagecore starting house that's been copied and pasted a thousand times... That anytime I even go into a Minecraft server with friends it's almost all I see. To be insulted and ridiculed for going outside that box of expectations and a demand of conformity. Let it be from friends, outsiders or even yourself about your builds. I think the same can sometimes be said about artwork and wanting to do better.
...and in truth Minecraft, Vintage Story and even Terraria taught me "peace" for creatives. That in all reality you can do whatever you please without all those expectations baring down on you. Sure it might not look as pretty or gorgeous as those builds you see online, but... At the end of the day you're the one who built it. That building is entirely unique to you. A lot of my buildings stretch up vertically, defying gravity and supports for something more... Whimsical. I see tutorials all the time that you should follow the rules of gravity in minecraft, but... Why? The game gives you so many tools and options to do what the player pleases. Who cares if the building has a flat surface, who cares if it doesn't use 4 colors of the same block, in the end? None of it matters, as it should only matter to the person who built it. As long as they had fun, who truly cares about the end result?
It's the same thing I do when applying myself to artwork. I don't do it for a profit, I don't do it for fame and glory, I just do it because it makes me happy at the end of the day. That I shall always draw what I please, when I want, and how I want to do it. It still shocks me Minecraft has been around for 15 years... and I still see heavy debate if the Beta, Alpha or even the newest version is the best version of Minecraft objectively. For that, I don't think I really have an answer, but I can at least say what these games have done for me.
...I still have this distant memory of myself when I was younger. A biting sense of Nostalgia and traveling through a foggy landscape. A single cobblestone castle stood, all the same block, with diamonds coveted in the middle. A build by today's standards would be beyond hideous... and yet, I keep thinking back to how much I was brimming with pride and could easily brag to my friends of how "impressive" it was, and they all agreed. The countless days I spent on it after coming home from school... It all feels like a distant daydream... and I suppose that's how I look back at all my artwork. Not with me thinking it's "Awful" or "Outdated", but remembering... How happy it made me and how far I've come from where I once stood.
I will always prefer the blocky, wooden and cobblestone structure over a copy and pasted medieval fantasy home any day of the year. If you got to the end of reading my little ramblings? Thank you, it actually does mean quite a bit to me. Thank you all for everything, you're all truly wonderful. Have a nice day.
Minecraft belongs to Mojang or Microsoft or whatever. I do not hold any copyright towards it and if anything, this is a parody or fanart or whatever. The artwork is mine, TwistedHensley, that type of stuff of where I do hold it, I believe, you get it. I did make the OCs and stuff, but yeah-- Go and support the official release
Other Disclaimer: You are allowed to share my artwork as long as I am credited, but do not upload it anywhere else, edit it and or mark it as your own if that wasn't common sense.
