Buck Brothers: American Flag Day (6/14/24)
Today in the Vexillological Corner...
The 14th of June is Flag Day for the 🇺🇸 United States. The day is celebrated with the birth of the "Stars and Stripes".
The idea of Flag Day was started by a man named George Morris, back on June 14, 1861. The day was later issued and a day proclamation by President Woodrow Wilson in 1916 and was established by an Act of Congress to get the flag’s day of recognization.
Of course when people think about the "first" American Flag, they would immediately think of Betsy Ross. This however stumped historians due to the idea of Francis Hopkinson, a congressman from New Jersey was responsible for the flag. His Flag depicted the inverted field of white and red and using the Canton of blue with six-pointed stars instead of five being based off of the Washington's Headquarters flag. No one really knows who did it and a bill for the flag was never paid.
So, today, I made a montage of most of the times I flew an American Flag. Plus, I still have the Betsy Ross Flag from Christmas, and even thought there was not as much wind that I was hoping for, at least I got some good photos to celebrate.
What variant of the American Flag flag should I get next? The 13-Star/U.S. Navy Jack? Or The Star-Spangled Banner? Who knows? Only time will tell.
