The Mabinogion is a collection of eleven prose stories from medieval Welsh manuscripts. Drawing on pre-Christian Celtic mythology, some themes going back to the early Iron Age, it contains some of Europes oldest folklore. The source material, the Red Book of Hergest, or Llyfr Goch Hergest, first appeared as a complete work in 1382, but older documents have been found. The book is in three volumes. Tales of King Arthur, the love story of Kilhwch and Olwen, and the ancient 6th century bard Taliesin can be found within.
