It's the gradient, unlike a video file like MP4, a gif doesn't have an index color that is linked to all the images but each one have their own, so each images with about the same amount of colors basically doubles size of the file of each images you use. if you take my latex rodent tf animation, despite the large size of the images of 1920x1080 it's only 4.7 mg in memory. I used flat colors only and one flat color to give the background a 3d look to give it fake details.
