Welcome back to another Gun Day Sunday! Hope everyone had a great Star Wars day. Since I drew a retro SBR AK last week, it felt it only natural to do the AR counterpart. Making her return with her reproduction XM177 upper AR is the retro girl from the 122th Gun Day Sunday.

I'm actually partial to the carry handle, but for the life of me, I just can't comfortably use any optic mounted on top of 'em. Lifting my head/cheek away from the butt stock seems counterintuitive, when I've trained/used Ye Ole Iron Sights for more'n forty years.
Guess there's some 'Tricks' this olde Dog can't learn, eh?

Isn't the XM77 the one where it was meant for special forces and they had to figure out how to make it sound like a normal m16 because its design made it sound different originally?
Also nice seeing a m16 carry handle scope, I don't see that depicted very often.

There has been a lot of stuff on the internet about the muzzle regulator of the XM177 and I cannot tell what is true from fiction. Some say it is to make the overall signature mimic an AK, other places say it is to provide mild sound suppression, etc. I would not know.
Retro ARs and retro guns are just such a vibe and they appear more often nowadays thanks to Brownells making their retro uppers like the one used for the reference for this drawing.
