Slowly I strolled up the steep, unnaturally colorful hill, the soft grass tickling my feet.
It was warm, a pleasant breeze coming from far up north.
It caused the grass to wave and flow like a sea of endless, soft fur.
He sat up at the top, motionless except for his tail that slowly wagged, patting down the grass underneath it. He simply looked ahead, he knew it was me approaching.
I sat next to him in silence.
We sat like this for a good five minutes, not one word spoken, just staring at the sunset that was growing more majestic with every second that passed.
"You don't have to go, you know.."
I said and sniffled, wiping the tear that suddenly crept up on me away from my cheek.
He looked at me, his long beak pointing at my face. I looked up at him and watched as his lip curled up into a sad, melancholic smile.
I hated seeing him sad.
I hated this.
I hated every second of it.
"You know the answer to that darlin'."
"But WHY? WHY CAN'T YOU STAY?"
I croaked, my voice cracking from how choked up my throat was. My eyes were sparkling with how wet they were.
I stared into his glazed over, red eyes.
I was frustrated, angry.
He let out a low warble that sounded almost like the low grumble of a muscle cars idle mixed with an alligators bellows. His beak nudged my face tenderly, he wiped a tear away that rolled over my cheek and I closed my eyes, wrapping my arms around and embracing his warm bird bill.
Silently I sobbed holding on to my boy, his tail curling around in a comforting hug.
I knew there was no way around it, he had to do this. He had to hunt. He cant help it, it's his nature.
We sat in silence.
After a few moments, we went back to watching the sunset. His warm tail rested on my lap.
I pet it like a cat.
His chest expanded as he breathed in, when he sighed, his whole body vibrated.
"You know I can't stay darlin'.."
"I know."
He huffed quietly.
"..."
"..Promise me you'll stay safe."
"I promise."
"No, say it like you mean it.."
"..I promise you I will stay safe for you darlin'."
I did this vent piece a while ago and couldn't find the time to upload it.. I miss my boy a lot. I can't wait for the day I get to own him.. I'll never let you go, my boy.
There is a ton, and I mean a TON of lore that I could share about Mitchell, including the whole Eldritch soul mating and soul bonding process..
I've been incredibly productive when it comes to lore writing.. I just dont know where to put it all lmao, if you're interested I can DM it to you!

I love the colours in the twilight sky and how they reflect off of the grass. You certainly know how to capture such beautiful images.
The characters look very detailed, as well. You did a great job with the lighting effects on them as it's twilight in the scene.
The mood of the whole scene is very sad. It's never pleasant to no longer have someone or something you hold so close to your heart in your life.

thank you so much, this means a lot to me <3
The reason all the colors are so unnaturally vibrant is because this is not supposed to reflect a real place. You see, I have this extensive lore about eldritch beings being able to "soulmate" which is basically an extremely intense form of bonding where both parties enter a shared trance. They can mentally travel to the same place and they can change it however they please.. looks like my two boys settled on this beautiful cliffside together <3
Dont worry, Mitchell will never leave me, we are way too dependent on each other for that, quite frankly I dont think either one of us would survive it. He'll always be back until one day, he wont have to leave at all anymore.
